sfbp
[hv=d=e&v=b&s=s763ha62daqca7632]133|100|Scoring: IMPRHO deals and opens 2♦[/hv] RHO is a top pro, playing with a LOcLient. On a previous hand he held [hv=d=e&v=b&s=s763ha62daqca7632]133|100|Scoring: IMPRHO deals and opens 2♦[/hv] and responded 1♠ to opener's 1♥, so he is in full battle mode. This is to settle an argument with my partner, heheh. Stephen
inquiry
This hand is worth 16 hcp I guess (D-AQ worth D-AK here I guess). But the hand has lot of flaws. 1) Nearly half hcp in their suit (and your shortest suit)2) A horrible long suit3) no spade honor I think I would out of hand dismiss a possible 3♣ bid. Partner would expect much better clubs, and we might play in 5-1 or 5-2 club fit with only the ACE and miss a decent fit in either major. I would never consider 3♣ here. That leaves double, pass, and 2NT. In general I would favor pass here, but I have just too many quick tricks (2 in D, and two more) so if I pass, partner will never think I can be this good. So I will rule out pass. That leaves double and 2NT. The problem with 2NT is it gets us too high when it is wrong, and maybe too high doubled. So I will start with a double, and if partner bids only 2H or 2S, that is where we play it. I will not double and then rebid NT. BTW, my second choice is pass not 2NT, despite ruling out pass... 2NT just seems to risky to me.
hatchett
Double seems very normal.
pclayton
I'll double with 2N a close 2nd. Pass doesn't enter my mind.
helene_t
I'd double, but pass is not unreasonable. 2NT a close 3rd. 3♣ is ridicolous, allthough the fact that the client (who's probabbly less like to double than her pd is) is on my left, would be an advantage. pbleighton
Yuk! 2NT, with double close. If I was 4-3 in the majors, double would be clear. Pass is out of the question. Peter
whereagles
Dbl, though on another day 2NT or pass might be considered.
jdonn
Double, distant second choice pass. Well short of 2NT, I want partner raising that on random 8 counts, and though certain of those with a club fit make a lot of tricks, certain others do extremely badly. Finch
Double and pass a minimum response.
Chamaco
I pass. This hand has great controls, but that's about it; shape is not great at all (I don't buy the advertisement of how great is to have a 5th club here :P ) and the intermediates suck. I might end up fixed, oh well.
Robert
Hi everyone Double with no second choice or either Pass or 2NT. Regards, Robert
mcphee
Double looks clear to me, if partner makes a constructive response I can bid NT then.
