Do you balance none vul at MPs?

Recommended Posts

None vul, MPs, you hold Jx QJ9xx Q10 Q9xx.

RHO deals:

1D P 1S P; 2S P P ?

What now? Pass, double, 2NT, 3H?

Andy

I would have bid 1nt weakish takeout last round.

Hard to win at MP going minus 110.

More top players are playing 1nt as strong and natural in this position as responses get lighter and lighter.

This hand is absolute drek. My pard during the 2nd final of the Denver BAM balanced on a nearly identical hand. I got to play 3H and went for 500.

The ODR on this hand is wretched. The opps probably have 8 trump, which makes it very easy to double us at the 3 level.

Unless I am playing against a pair too timid to double, or will always take the push, I pass.

Definitely pass. Even if I balance and they take the push, which is the best case scenario, they are extremely likely to make when my hand is such crap. So the upside is barely even existant, but the downside is huge.

NOW it's too late, I had a chance to show my hand after 1 - p - 1...
I would have bid 1nt weakish takeout last round.
yes would have bid 1nt takeout at first chance

Oy, disgusting! I always hated this convention, but if it starts being used on hands like this I will like it very much. When my opponents are playing it, that is.

Just because you can show a certain shape is no excuse to be bidding at all on hands with no offense of any kind.
