GIB bug report

Oscar,

Thanks for the report. As you may have read in my recent forums posts, we are making an effort to try to improve GIB's bidding.

But the form of your post is not especially helpful in this regard. In particular, the link you provided leads to a list of 16 hands and I don't know which of these hands you are referring to. I could look through all of these, but it would make my life a lot easier if you could supply the board number (and, unless it is obvious, a brief explantion of what went wrong).

Also, it would be much better if you used e-mail (fred@bridgebase.com) instead of a forums post to report such problems. I am the one who is responsible for trying to deal with such problems and I am about to leave my office for a couple of weeks. There is a good chance that I will not notice all relevant forums posts when I get home.

So it would be best if you e-mailed me your BBO log file as an e-mail attachment along with information like the board # (and if you think it is necessary a brief explanation of what went wrong).

I won't be able to respond to such e-mails immediately, but I will receive them and deal with them when I get home (around June 25).

Thanks,

Fred Gitelman

He posted the same link in your thread, and there his explanation of the problem is clearer. It's not just one hand that he's complaining about, it's the whole pattern. Half the time GIB simply jumped to 6NT, while the other half it transferred to 2 and passed with 16HCP.

Another interesting thing is that it never tried to look for a 4-4 fit.
