...and add Drury to your bidding arsenal as soon as you are able to handle it.

The problem with preempting on 6421's is that they are ridiculously easy to find Game with. Often on far less than traditional values.

w/ xx.AQxxxx.xxxx.A, you do not intend to let Them play the hand below the 5 level.

Seems like the options here are 1, 2, and 3.

In general I'm of the opinion that if preempting is an option you should preempt. Certainly this hand is strong enough for a one-level third-seat opening, but you aren't likely to have the majority of the values (partner passed) and it pays to put some pressure on lefthand opponent.

I like 2 myself, but my vulnerable preempts are notably more conservative than many people (partner will know a hand like this is a possibility and will try for game with a maximum pass that includes a heart fit). If you tend to open vulnerable third seat preempts on trash, this might be too good for a 2 call. In this case I have doubts about 3 with poor suit quality and would go with 1.

1 without hesitation. I do not pre-empt with two aces, not even 3rd in hand. Furthermore, both 2 and 3 will sometimes make them bid a making game on marginal values they wouldn't have been able to bid if I hadn't helped them.

Finally, it's virtually impossible for partner to judge when to pass, double or bid on if I can have this much defensively for a pre-empt.

I'm torn here between 1 and 2. I agree with Roland that if you bid 2 you will make it harder for partner to help you in any decisions. Against that, 2 makes it harder for opponents too. Yeah they may have a spade fit and overcalling 2 might be convenient. But is overcalling 3 all that convenient? Yet on the other hand, your defense is as good as your offense, so you don't want partner sacrificing when it's wrong either. So it's really a close one for me. At IMPs is a clear 1 opener for me. At MPs I think I'm bidding 2.

The trouble with 2H is that partner might well play me for something awful like:

[hv=s=sxhqj10xxdxxxxcxxx]133|100|[/hv]

since I am 3rd in hand. So if we do have a good save, we'll be unlikely to find it. So 1H it is.
