sceptic
so you think 2!H after opps bid them , does or does not deny or guarentee spade support were playing 2/1 ?
pbleighton
This was just a partnership misunderstanding. The normal meaning of 2H is a limit plus raise in spades. Your partner obviously didn't play it that way , but you did. Agree what 2H means in the future, and move on. Peter
P_Marlowe
Hi, 2H is a generic force, asking for further description, e.g. stopperin hearts ...Obviously your partner intended 2H as stopper showing, which isalso a possible treament, altoughnot a standard treatment. The best bid is probably a jump to 3D, showing the values and the 6thdiamond.It is certainly not an option to pass 3D,with respect to the 2H bid,but so is repeating the spade suit a 3rdtimewith respect to the 2H bid, so 4D seemsbest. P_Marlowe
so you think 2!H after opps bid them , does or does not deny or guarentee spade support were playing 2/1 ? It certainly denies primary support, ... partnercan bid 2S, 3S, 4S.A jump cant be preemptive, afterall he opened.Only in fairly rare cases, i.e. in cases he hasslam, is a 2H bid with a spade fit an option, and youshould double check, if there is no other option. EricK
Are you playing that your 1♠ bid shows 5♠? If so, then partner's 2♥ bid is just a general force, probably denying ♠ support, and you should now show your ♦ support. If you only promise 4♠ for your bid, then 2♥ will often include hands with 3 card support. Whatever your bid showed, I don't think partner is strong enough to bid 2♥. She should have settled for 3♦ which you can happily pass. One point is that you are unlikely to have great length in ♠ bearing in mind that you passed originally. Perhaps your partner should have figured this out.

I suspect that you misread the auction.

luke warm
i'd assume 2♥ shows stopper(s) for nt purposes, and i'd bid 3♦ since i can't stop clubs
luis
2♥ is ambiguous.2♠ is fine confirming 5+ spades.Over 3♦ you have to bid 4♦ in my opinion, you already said you have 5 spades, and pd is saying she has a diamond suit so it is time to support with support.
