Best usage for-2

Recommended Posts

At matchpoints what is the best usage for 4nt here playing kickback:

1D=2C(G/F) 14+hcp very often

2H=3D

3S=4C

4D=4NT

2H=very often just showing shape, not extras, can still be junky 11 hcp.

4D=Slam try in D but often with some void or side suit worry since no 4H(rkc) bid.

4H by anyone on this auction is rkc for D.

Is it best to use 4nt here as signoff to play or as a heart cuebid?

But then, he did bid heart himself, and he

cant be broke, i.e. he will have a heart cue,

responder at least can / will assume this.

I think 4NT as sign of makes sense playing

MP.

Although I dont think that makes in the given

auction a lot of sense, opener makes a slam

move, responder makes a slam move,

... except 3S was FFS - asking for a spade

stopper?

But if 4C denied a spade stopper, he cant have

one a round later.

With kind regards

Marlowe

have a question, mike

before deciding if 4NT should be heart cue or to play, how does P ask for a club control (A,K, stiff) on this auction?

DKL :-)

Pard is really going to think I am(opener) void in clubs on this auction most of the time. With 2 small clubs and no voids I would just bid 3nt or rkc very very often.

Thanks for the feedback the issue is really how to play a 4nt when playing kickback for all suits..c. d and h at MP and rkc has not been invoked. Most important for the minors. The choices are natural to play or substitution cuebid of the kickback suit. On this example with d as trump it would be cue of heart suit.

The situation is neither partner bids rkc but we have cuebid and lets assume the trump is clear, in this case D but could be any suit. What is the best usage of a 4nt bid with no rkc(kickback) bid? You may assume most of the time this will mean a void somewhere but the other case maybe some side suit worries but really most common is a void and a void in partners bid suit as here.

  • 3 weeks later...

4N = a heart cue (A, K or Q) the way I play. I suppose a possible hand is: void, Axx, Kxxx, AQxxxx.

I suppose that it would be nice to be able to back into 4N, but you can't have everything. Besides in the example auction, the club bidder had a chance to try 3N over 3S (or 4N, showing extras).

Keep it simple and don't make exceptions after several auctions:

4X is kickback? Then 4NT is a X cuebid. Here X = .

I usually make an exception ...

If I have offered NTs earlier in the auction then 4NT says I hate my hand and want to offer NTs again.

That doesn't apply in this auction so 4NT = cue.
