You are playing Precision with your ex-pard and look at (red on red): void KQT8xx xx K6xxx

Pard opens 1 and you try 1N (agree? by the way, we don't play 2/1 as GF). Pard tries 2 which promises 2+.

Now what?

Hard to believe 3 is undiscussed..but simple things first. Do I agree with 1NT over 1? The answer is no. Being vulnerable I am taking the high road and bidding 2 with this hand. This is a very good hand.

Having bid 1NT, I am not bidding 2, too huge an underbid. I am not passing, as I have game ambition, not 3 as that will not get the job done, so I guess here I have to bid 3. Better, to start 2 imho.

Having a bit of trouble with the system here. If 2/1 is NOT GF, on what hands may opener rebid 2C on as few as doubleton, and what is the rationale?

That said, I think that there is no possible meaning for 3H other than a big H-C 2-suiter in context.

I think opposite a limited opening, 3C is enough.

You are playing Precision with your ex-pard.

However, I'm curious though - did this person become your ex-partner before or after this match?

We stopped playing about 2 years ago. It wasn't my intention to play with him on this team, but one of the members wouldn't make himself available, so we had to juggle the partnerships a little.

I bid 2 as well and pard passed with: AQ9xx Jx KT9 Axx. At the time, I thought he should have opened a 14-16 1N.

At the other table, his hand (John Swanson) opened 1N playing a 15-17 NT! David Weiss Texas'd with mine. Chris can beat the game with a trump lead and a diamond through, but led the Q. I think game is excellent from his side, but only fair from mine.

I'm not sure what my LHO will lead against 4, but against 2 I got the 10 so I made an easy 10 tricks.

I think in our old system notes we had 3 defined as a splinter for clubs, so I didn't want to risk it. I'm not sure he's going to game anyway, although the scoring dictates he should.
