lowerline
Playing Precision you open a strong club with: ♠ AJT53♥ AK♦ AT4♣ AJ6 The following bidding unfolds (opps are quiet): 1♣ - 2♦2♠ - 3♣3♦(1) - 3NT(2)? 1: Delayed TAB2: KQxxx What is your plan? hrothgar
My plan is highly dependent on the meaning of 3♣. Is 3♣ natural showing a club suit?Alternatively, is it clarfiying Spade support? I suspect that either way I'd like to CAB in Clubs

Partner is showing 5+ Diamonds and 4+ ClubsHis mostly likely shape is 1=3=5=4 In an ideal world, partner has xxxxKQxxxKQxx In this case we have 5 Diamond trick4 Club trickstwo hearts and a heart ruff1 Spade I'm tempted to ask for the Queen of Clubs. If partner has it, I'll place the contract in 7.I might consider a Heart CAB if I can guaruntee that partner can't bid higher than 4NT

He claims after 3 tricks. It turns out he had: ♠K72♥9♦KQ762♣KQ76 7NT is the top spot. What will you be talking about in the post-mortem at the bar? If it were me, I'd be expressing my joy that the opponents allowed us an uncontested auction desite their 10 card Heart fit. Not often that you get away with this playing a storng club system. I might also comment that we may have missed 7N, but we had a reasonable controlled auction to a making grand. Hopefully this will put us ahead of the field. If partner were silly enough to bitch that we missed 7NT my initial response would be that I'm playing his bloody system. Back when I played Precision, 2♠ would have asked partner to clarify his Spade support. We would have immediately found the double fit and could have probably reached 7N. In the absence of such agreements, there is some question whether partner should have shown his Club suit or clarified his Spade support after the 2♠ rebid. Personally, I didn't expect that partner could have made a 3♣ bid holding 3 Spades to an honor. My big worry was that partner might have xxxxKQxxxKQxx Luckily, I switched to relay (with its own set of problems)
