The Q♥ is an offensive value, not a defensive value. Move it around and I think I have just enough for a pass.

 

I'm not going to guess the total tricks here. Pard could have a 1=5=?=? as much as a 2=5=?=?

Maybe I'll look stupid in the end, but my feeling tells me pass is the right move.. Nonetheless, I'm not going to risk that. 2NT for me it is.

i figure 16 total trumps, and i don't feel that leaving the x in is a sure thing (especially at imps)... i'd have to bid 3♥... i can't imagine bidding 2nt knowing partner is short in spades and knowing we have a good heart suit

Tough one. At MPs, a pass is very attractive. At IMPs, the risk outweighs the possible gain.

My preference would be 2N, but 3♥ is very close. It's quite possible that pard has both red kings, which would be best for 2N.

:lol: 3♥. Pard doesn't want to leave 2♠ alone. I don't have enough spades to pass, and I have a good place to play - 3♥. Why tell the opponents anything more? If 3♥ goes down one when 2♠ goes down or 3♣ makes, that's just too bad. It's either bad luck or pard made a bad bid.

I pass with an understanding partner. With a partner or teammates who think -670 means you should give up bridge [seem to be the only teammates I get], I bid 3H. But I want to pass as 500 seems not unlikely.

1. Pard's double, and my hand, suggests 2s is a reasonable spot for them. My hand is a beast to lead from, and even if I dont cost our side a trick with a bad lead, I don't expect to beat them 2.

 

2. If pard has heart K and another card, I see a lot of paths to 8 tricks in NT - and a lot of ways to fail at 3H.

 

3. 2n doesnt force partner to pass, although it's hard to envision many other reasonable actions, given the auction to date. Maybe he is 5-5 in hearts and a minor, and will try that minor. If that happens, we're playing 4h.
