Support Doubles

Recommended Posts

I see that alot of people play support doubles

what are ramifications of

1.direct support

2.support double itself

should one show only 3 card support without honor or

3card support with honor

or 4 card support

just curious as to how people play support bid itself

it would seem in some cases its better to make raises as it creates ambiquity as to opponents bids especially if you can raise to 2

I play any 3 card support, I also play this even if partner has promised 5 cards in bid major. I play support X is almost always on, yes, even if I am rebidding some ugly 11 hcp balanced hand.

Jxx..Qxx...KQxxx.....Kx

1D=P=1H=(1S)

X(UGLY)

or

1D=(1H)=1S(5)=(2H)

X

Reason is so pard can bid up to lawful level in competitive auctions.

Here's one for discussion:

Bidding goes 1m by partner, rho overcalls 1H, you bid 1 spade (showing 5 by agreement: I know some don't play it this way), 2H by lho, and it's now P's bid.

Playing support doubles, what are the meanings of the following bids by partner?

1) double

2) 2 spades

does one show 3 card spade support and the other shows 4-card support? or can the raise to 2 spades be made with 3-card support? If yes, how do you play a double by partner?

enjoy

Playing support Xs, a direct raise shows 4 and a support X shows 3. Some play them mandatory, others use them only with extra values, and with 3 trumps and garbage they pass.
