mike777
pass trying for a plus score at MP.
hotShot
Do you have an agreement about dbl? In 2nd seat any action over a preempt should be at least solid. I would expect dbl to be stronger than bidding a suit. A suit bid should have 5+ cards. So i would pass.
whereagles
Pass. Spade king is a doubtful value and, given our spade length, pard may have streched to bid 3♥.
mr1303
I think that to not raise to 4H is using the UI that partner's overcall is probably marginal given the hesitation. So I would bid 4H here.

The hesitation might be due to pard's hand being borderline between bidding 3 and 4, so I'm not sure you could automatically adjust to 4♥. Free
- we don't have any special agreements on overcalls, so Dbl would be takeout, probably suggesting ♥- partner has a tendency to think longer than most players. So UI is not clear ;) I hope this helps, any more questions or responses are welcome ofcourse
Gerben42
I pass at MP and at IMPs. About UI: Since it is unclear if partner was deciding between Pass and 3♥, 3♥ and 4♥ or 3♥ and Dbl, UI does not suggest any action against another. Bidding and partner was close to pass may turn -100 into -500 against -110 in 2♠.
han
I agree that the UI doesn't necessarily suggest a pass. Partner may have been thinking about pass, double, or even 4H. Given the vulnerability it is not so unlikely that our spade king is a useful value. We may well have a very useful hand for partner and at IMPs I would certainly raise. We may have a vulnerable game and it is very unlikely that RHO will be able to double when we are overboard. After all, we do have a 10-count with a good fit, and RHO doesn't know that our king is badly placed. Perhaps it is right to pass at MPs, I think that it is closer than the responses so far suggest. It also depends on what we expect for an unfavorable 3-level overcall.
Codo
I wonder about the lot of pass-ive members. I bid 4 Heart . Pd is limited to 18 or so, isn´t he? But he will have a solid opening after bidding at the 3. level with an unpassed partner.Yes the Spade king and the balanced hand is a ´strong minus, but if I dislike the opening lead in 4 Heart, I will bid 3 NT. P_Marlowe
Hi, I pass. With kind regardsMarlowe
hrothgar
To some extent this depends on partner and what a red versus white 3♥ looks like at MPs. If this were IMPs I'd bid 3NT. I suspect that my hand is worth a lot more as declarer than with a Spade going through me. At MPs, I'm torn. I suspect that i'd bid 3N here as well. There is just too much danger that RHO is sitting on a crappy hand with 5-5 shape.
han
I don't like 3NT here, it is too deep with these spade spots.
Free
I also wonder what's up with all the passes. It's V vs NV, partner makes a 3-level overcall, he's not crazy, and we have a fit. :) I thought the choice would be between 3NT and 4♥... Finch
I would bid 4H, but my second choice is also pass. I don't like 3NT with no spade pips, no certainty that the relevant minor is stopped, and the pre-emptor on lead (who is likely to have a better idea which suit to lead). nige1
IMO 3N=10 4H=9 p=5In 2nd seat partner should be sound14HCP & 6H, say
