Emailed summaries of matches/boards

Recommended Posts

Some years ago I played team games at OKbridge and one of the best features was that after the match was finished, within a minute or so a .txt file arrived in my mailbox with all the boards and the bidding, play and scores from both tables. Just loved it!

Now I've started playing matches, again, on BBO (check www.mbcbridge.com) and it really strikes me what an excellent feature that was (is). Could just print it out and go over all details whenever it suited me. After just a couple of team games now, I'm really bugged that I can't get this on BBO :(

Maybe this feature takes a huge effort to implement, but I'm sure a lot of people would appreciate it as much as I do. The same concept could include partnership bidding practise sessions (deals and bidding).

Did you notice that every board you played, is stored on your Harddisk?

If you activate the option, even boards you kib are logged there.

You can find the files at:

C:\Bridge Base Online\hands\YOUR_BBO_NAME

or what your bbo directory is.

By double clicking on the .lin file, BBO is launched and you can review the boards with the usual BBO inteface and use GIB to analyse the play.

I think this beats email by far.

Thanks for link to BRbrowser. Got a copy 5 years ago, but wasn't aware of the progression.

Yes, I know my played boards are stored locally. Maybe it's just a matter of preference, but to me the email version with other table bidding etc next to ours for easy comparison is "superior". I'd like the possibility to take a couple of sheets with me and read then commuting or waiting in line somewhere (or whatever).

I appreciate the unique feature to replay and have GIB analysis but can't we have both options?

Homebase post the results AND emails the same for every BBO tournament they run. An example is this link for one game I played in...

http://www.homebaseclub.com/users/inquiry/405-114377.htm

As you can see, everything you asked for, and more is included. All of my bidding and play is there. The results at the other tables is there. The opening lead at the other tables is there. There are hyperlinks to each of the other tables so you can go look at what happened there. There is a makeable contract list calculated by DEEP FINESSE. Sometimes there is commentary about the hands. Also note I was North on these hands, but I appeared at the bottom of the diagram, the player is always at the bottom of the diagram. And this same file is emailed to each player requesting it automatically. They email the file either as plain text or as the html you see posted at the link above.

Finally, all hb hands are nearly instantly available within bridgebrowser online where you can search and replay them or look at what happened at the other tables. I think there is up to a 12 hour delay before they show up right now, but technically they could be available almost instantly.

ulven, you are right that on your harddisk you do not find what others did to the board you see. But just trymyhands and all is there. There, you can replay a hand that was played at a different table like you can replay your own, and this is by far superior to any email solution, where you cannot even replay your own hand. I find it very hard to figure out what happened when the tricks are just printed.
