Opps silent.

1S-2C-3C-3N

D6 lead (4'th) to the J and Q. Plan the Play.

Ah; club to Q and spade toward JACK. Very difficult for RHO to pop queen here.

Probably not the best theoretical play, but I think its the best at the table.

Play a to dummy and call for a low . If east plays the 2, duck it. This ensures that West wins the and he cannot attack . If east plays a bigger spot, win, cash the remaining , ending in hand and lead a and guess.

This gives you the slight extra chance of catching East napping with 3 including the 2.

If playing against poor players known to have absorbed the lesson of covering an honour with an honour, play as above, but if you have to win the first in hand, table the J and watch the tempo.

Note that my suggested approach does NOT work against players using udca (an unusual consequence of the defensive methods chosen) so I would not use my method against a pair without (before playing to trick one) asking about carding, if I did not already know it. I always routinely ask about carding on the first board I declare against any opps, so I should not be giving anything away by asking here.

If they play udca, then I either run the (against competent players) or cash 2 or 3 and then lead the J to see what west does.
