Finch
Chagas plays so fast that the vugraph operator couldn't keep up, and we don't know what line he took, but he made the contract, and I wasn't convinced I would have done: [hv=d=s&n=sqxhj107xxdkjxcqxx&s=skj9xhk9xdaxcakxx]133|200|Scoring: IMP1♣ P 1♥ P2NT P 3NT all pass A highish diamond is led. Plan the play.[/hv]
tonedown
Wheres the hardship? with 25 HCP and good stoppers everywhere you jaut roll... ;) J♦ first trick, if it holdfs run the J ♥
Free
small ♦ at trick one for sure! ♦J is necessary to make East not play ♦. Small to the A. We have 5 tricks, a possible 6th can come from ♣ breaking 3-3, and you have some possibilities for tricks in ♠ and ♥. However, you'll probably have to play both suits. Win ♦A and play small ♠ to the Q. If it holds, play on ♥: small to the K, to minimize the risk that West gets on the lead.
HeartA
I agree with Free. If SQ loses to SA, and ♦ back, I have 8 tricks: 2♠s + 3♦s + 3♣s. The 9th could come from ♣3-3, or ♠10 dropps, or ♥A on side. I would try ♥ to HK first as Free said.
Finch
OK, win the first diamond with the ace and play a spade to the Queen which loses to East's Ace. East plays a low heart back.
Free
♥K, nothing changed...
pclayton
Tough hand. No way I'm hooking the diamond at T1. This can wait. I guess a spade at T2 likely can't hurt, but this doesn't lead to 9 tricks, since I still need the heart trick unless clubs are 3-3, and the ♠10 drops (or I guess to finesse later); unless RHO has both major suit aces. I certainly play the ♥K here. I'm fine if East has ♥AQx. RHO can't see the ♥9; and leading from Qx (x) blows a trick. If I catch ♥AQx on my left, I'm probably toast anyway. Note: even if the K♥ wins, I'm not at 9 tricks yet. I still have a little guessing to do, but cashing the clubs will help shed light on things I think. By the way, the great Chagas should have been declaring 4♥ here. That contract doesn't have the drama of 3N. B)
