Pass, Pass, RHO opened 3♣, 3♠ and a dubious 4♠ by pard. -2 with a little help from the opps. A lot of the 90 minute drive home centered on 3N by North - South. I won't say what DF says about it, but you get to choose to play or defend.
Walddk
I want to defend given that North is declarer. Will wait with the lead till others get the chance. If South declares, however, I want to play the hand. Roland
jdonn
I'll declare from either north or south. I hope I'm not missing something!
Walddk
I hope I'm not missing something! You are, with North as declarer. Roland
jdonn
accidental post undone further edit: I did indeed remove the quote below BEFORE it was replied to :D but not quickly enough.
Walddk
I hope I'm not missing something! You are, with North as declarer. Roland I double you I redouble! Try to make it on a diamond lead. And that is exactly why the contract can't be defeated if South is declarer. West can't attack the suit. Roland
Limey_p
I wondered if the contract would always be down on a heart lead ducked ... but no, west is subjected to a (strip) squeeze on the run of the spades ...
Free
I want to play, especially when South! If I run my ♠s, LHO can discard 1♦, but he'll need another discard: either ♣ or ♦. If he discards ♣, then you can endplay him in ♥ (or endplay RHO and make a ♣ trick). If he discards ♦ you can cash out. If he discards ♥ then we lose a ♥ less. If I'm north, a ♦ lead may screw my entry problems, because I need to play ♥ myself... But it might still be possible.
pclayton
Roland rocks! And I didn't even make a comment about the positional nature of the hand; I was going to leave that for later. ;) Limey's comment about the low heart lead is right; the West hand gets ground up on the 5th spade. But its the diamond through the tenace (played by North) thats the killer.
