A new transfer situation?

Recommended Posts

Maybe you mean relays, rather than transfers? Most of the suits have already been bid, afterall. As for a "transfer" type relay system instead of the XYZ relays, I'm not sure I see the advantage. Maybe with transfers you can contrive to get 2/3NT played by partner if you want to, but it seems that might be a decision best left to partner's discretion.

Oh, and in your example, what if I want to naturally raise partner to 2? Do I have to bid 2 to get there, allowing the opponents a chance to double it to suggest competiting in clubs?

Ah maybe even better to make 2 a transfer too then. We have 3 suits and I rebid one of the suits by bidding the suit below it, i.e. to support I bid 2, to support I bid 2.

2 would ask for a stopper then.

I play x-fer checkback here in a big club context:

1D-1H-1S:

2C-Puppet to 2D, to play 2D or an INV hand

2D-Hearts, weak or GFing

2H-Spades, weak or GFing

2S- GFing no extra major length

2N-Nat

3C- to play

3D-4H, 5+D, slammish

3H-6+H, strong suit, slammish

3S-4 spades, GFing, Balanced
