han
This was nonsense, I got confused because of the two Robinson teams.
glen
Looks like Justin's team is called Baze, and is up 114-87, against Robinson. (according to the completely unofficial scores) Team Baze is listed as Grant Baze, San Diego CA; Steve Beatty, Mill Creek WA;Michael Whitman, San Francisco CA; Krzystof Buras, Chorzow St. Lucia; Grzegorz Narkiewicz, Bielsk
Walddk
Krzystof Buras, Chorzow St. Lucia Interesting that the organisers seem to have relocated Chorzow in Poland to St. Lucia. Roland

Aberlour10
Krzystof Buras, Chorzow St. Lucia Interesting that the organisers seem to have relocated Chorzow in Poland to St. Lucia. RolandI wish it would be true , because I was born in the direct neighborhoodof Chorzow, the town of steel, coal, and dust  One of the favorites, team Jacobs is so early out of the event, what a surprise! Walddk
Well done Susan, compiling the results from Dallas, but shouldn't you be there as a vugraph operator? Maybe you are at the venue, and if so, why are you not operating? USA has several excellent operators, and Susan is arguably the very best. What a shame that we're not showing anything from the event so far. Roland
Gerben42
Thanks Susan for telling us the results. Looking forward to seeing the Vugraph of what could almost be called the world KO championship. If the Bermuda Bowl is the Wimbledon of Bridge, this surely is the US Open. Gerben (from wet and cold southern Germany)
Gerben42
Let's have a look at the RO16: 1. Nickell vs 17. Strul (with Tuszynski, Kowalski, Lesniewski and Peter Weichsel) As usual foreign teams are underseeded so Nickell need to play their best to win this one. 8. Lynch vs 24. Hollman Looks like Lynch has the better cards here - but never underestimate Joe Grue! 20. Baze vs 36. Team Orange Team Orange will continue to show that seed 36 is a joke. And they must be hot since Helgemo and friends gave up with 16 boards to play! Team Baze did well so far, includes Polish ex-juniors Buras - Narkiewicz but it will be the end of the line here. 5. Schwartz vs 44. Chang Chang includes one of China's star pairs: Zhao Xie & Fu Zhong so clearly underseeded. But as a Dutchy I have to vote for the Schwartz all-star team here  3. Welland vs 46. Marston I think Welland should win this, Marston was way underseeded (the Australian open team) but with BB finalists Balicki & Zmudzinski, Welland will be the favorite. 6. Robinson vs 11. Rubin Clear vote for Fred here - so Rubin to go through. 7. O'Rourke vs 23. Moss O'Rourke is going to win this one big is my guess. Did you see their lineup? Wow! 18. Shugart vs 34. Jacob Team Jacob must have been VERY happy to get past the nr. 2 seeds so I will give them at least a chance here. Still Shugart will be favorite, though. So my QF lineup is: Nickell - LynchTeam Orange - SchwartzWelland - RubinO'Rourke - Shugart And pretty pretty please with sugar on top... Vugraph? Nadreck
Is their any site or link with the running scores , hand records etc. This information was easily obtained for the Bermuda Bowl but the ACBL site seems very limited apart from daily bulletins. The results for the Vanderbilt appear in the bulletin but not in the results link. Based on the coverage (not the bridge standard) then if the Bermuda Bowl is the Wimbledon of Bridge, this surely is a local school competition :D

glen
Repeating the above,In yesterday’s round of 32, top seeds Nickell(#1), Welland (#3) and Robinson (#6) cruised tovictory.Hollman (original #24 seed) continued itsmarch, walloping the Lynch squad (#8) by 70IMPs. In the second quarter, Hollman dished out a96-1 punishment of Lynch.Grant Baze’s team (#13) stopped TeamOrange (original #36) 144-127.Chang continues to impress, defeating #5Schwartz 148-135.Moss ousted higher-ranked O’Rourke 118-103, and Shugart (#18) handled giant-killerJacob 145-94.http://web2.acbl.org/nabcbulletins/2006spring/db7.pdf Of interest to Canadians is CNTC Silver Medalists Nicolas L’Ecuyer and Zygmunt Marcinski are in the round of 8, playing as a four bagger - you would think the CNTC 4 bagger experience would have been enough! Many years ago Bruce Ferguson (on the Hollman team) was asked if he was nervous playing in a CNTC final - he replied it was nothing compared to a Vandy. In the bulletin article "Devious defense" the text mixes up a suit so says "You’ll need something good to happen in the minor suits, however, as you’re looking at two spade losers, and probably two diamond losers and two club losers" - however clubs are A9x opposite KQJTx. Below that article we see:Vugraph volunteers neededACBL Chief Tournament Director Rick Beye is looking for several experienced BridgeBase Online (BBO) users to help with the online broadcast of the Vanderbilt vugraph presentation. Gerben42
Try the lottery instead, Gerben; that will give you better odds biggrin.gif I will not write down my predictions for the Soccer World Cup then, because the team I will predict as winner will do best to withdraw right away since it will be knocked out in the group phase anyway
MickyB
They also relocated The Hague to Nebraska for one of the dutch contestants. Worst of all, they relocated Glasgow to England for a contestant in one of the other events. Good way to annoy 50 million people at once. cherdano
Worst of all, they relocated Glasgow to England for a contestant in one of the other events. Good way to annoy 50 million people at once. Great! Didn't find an easier way yet to annoy 50 million Brits at once! :)Even mentioning "World Cup" and "penalties" in one sentence annoys only the English. :(
sdoty
First post now updated with 1st quarter Round of 8 results. and thanks for the earlier vugraph compliments. I'm in Dallas attending the Nationals, but I don't expect to be working the Vanderbilt vugraph this year. Its a demanding job, with sessions lasting close to five hours. As much as I enjoy the work, I've decided that I'm not willing to volunteer two exhausting 10+ hour days. If a high quality broadcast is a priority for a sponsoring organization, it should be willing to invest resources accordingly. I understand the appeal of using volunteers, but I firmly believe that whenever possible the burden of the broadcasts should be picked up by the organization and not left for volunteers to shoulder.
