Al_U_Card
Just before and since the most recent upgrade, I log in normally and if I go directly to the tourney room and click on a tourney the program locks up. If I go into the main room first and sit at a table then the lock-up doesn't occur when I go to a tourney site.
uday
I will save this for Fred (back Mon, with luck -- perhaps earlier if he gets KO'd from the Vanderbilt) Meanwhile 1. does it happen if you use another username? 2. by lockup do you mean "Waiting for server" or that the program becomes unresponsive to mouse & keyboar? 3. try a full reinstall from http://online.bridgebase.com/ uday
Al_U_Card
Thanks for the answer. I don't have another username so I wouldn't know. The program becomes unresponsive (gets stuck)but the computer still works and I can "x" out of BBO and then log back in. Win 98, 196 meg ram (don't ask) pentium mmx 200 I will try the reinstall...and let you know.
Al_U_Card
btw, I have a technical (uh-oh) sort of question. When I get on AOL, if I use my Aopen modem (proper driver and software option clicked in settings) the bridge games are slow even tho AOL shows me as being at 50K. If I use my external US Robotics (20 year-old) modem, AOL indicates that I am connected at only 45K but the site speed for bridge play is at least twice as fast....what's up with that? (I use this all the time but I am curious if I am doing something wrong.)
Al_U_Card
Did the re-load from the alternate aol-site on the page you gave me and the problem is fixed. Thanks. Still no idea about the modem thingy......

Still no idea about the modem thingy...... Al, you should try the following: Dial in with the "dodgy" modem and open a DOS box (by going via Start->Run... and entering "cmd"+Enter). Then run the following command:ping -n 10 bbo.bridgebase.comand look at what average time it reports. Repeat this for other popular sites (like www.google.com etc.) and compare the average times. Repeat with the "good" modem and see if there's any difference. --Sigi

Al_U_Card
Sigi: The ping worked on my work computer (but BBO is locked out by the firewall) On my home computer (subject in question) It would not recognize the command line, saying that there were elements missing etc. (I typed it in VERY carefully) so I didn't get a chance to try... Is it "cmd"+enter) or"cmd"+enter). ??? I think I had the . there all the time...

Sigi_BC84
"cmd"+enter) or"cmd"+enter). ??? I think I had the . there all the time... You took it way to literally :-). Like Uday said: After going via Start->Run... a box should pop up. The box has a text entry field, which you can use for running arbitrary commands. Enter cmd or command into that field and hit ok (or the return key). Then you will get a text window with a black background which you can use to run further command, such as the ping command given above. --Sigi
