Joe de Balliol
[hv=d=e&v=b&w=st3hkdkq42ckj9863&e=s9862ha974dj6ca75]266|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Right, you're East and pass at a highish level competition. It's teams of four, but you'd quite like to do well on the Butler as well :D You pass of course, partner opens 1C [5cm, better minor, weak nt]. RHO bids 1H. You double. LHO raises to 2H and partner bids 3D. You bid 3N. A heart is led. Apart from blaming partner for the auction, what's your plan of action? Free
♥K, small ♦ to your J, and play ♣A followed by the finesse ♣ later on.
cherdano
I think the tricky question is what to do if the ♦J holds at trick two. The best chance to make is now to cash the aces in hand and take the club finesse. But that will also ensure a maximum number of undertricks in case the finesse fails. I think I will play a club to the jack, and a club back to the ace if it holds, too. Arend
Codo
I better make my contract, else I will loose the post mortem because of my double. We had the discussion before: Do a double show both missing suits or not? I am with your part in that case.I see no big sense in the goal to reach less undertricks as long as I have a chance to make the contract. But I see a reason to choose the slightly less perfect line and play a first round club finesse after I played a diamond to the jack. Joe de Balliol
The Knave of diamonds won. I played a club to the Knave. Sure enough, the queen of clubs was singleton offside and team-mates were not happy. I didn't bother arguing with them, as I don't think one of them understood the problem with entries I had. Cheers for replies. J
Fluffy
I hated this damn deal, played 4♣ after pass-pass-3♣-X-4♣-all pass With 3 toplosers I had to find ♣QI made an interesting play reducing RHO's cards ruffing away his 10 non trump cards to find out he had 3 trumps with 3 tricks to go.(♠K,♠Q,♥->♥K,♦J,♠ ruff, ♦K->♦A, ♥ ruff, ♦ ruff, ♥A discarding ♦Q and 4th ♥ on wich RHO had to discard ♠A) When I was victoriously gonna finese ♣Q I found it singleton on my left GRGRGRGRGRGRGRGRGGRGG. Wich team did you play for Joe?
