cherdano
So you hold, at IMPs favourable, this very nice hand:♠x ♥KTJx ♦AKQxxx ♣T9and it improves further during the auction:1♠ on your right, you overcall 2♦, partner volunteers 2♥ (forcing), RHO competes with 2♠. 4♥ or a stronger move? JohnnyH7
I would bid 3S planning to bid 4H later showing a strong raise. If LHO bids 4S I don't mind going to the 5 level. I don't need much for a slam to make (club ace, 6 hearts to the ace).
pclayton
3♠ followed by 4♦ over 3N. Logically this has to agree hearts and show powerful diamonds. I prefer this to a cue followed by a heart preference.
toothbrush
I consider to bid 4♣, as a "fake" control bid. This has some advantages:- this bid immediately tells partner we'll play in ♥- opponents will be less likely to find a killing ♣-lead/switch- you get to know how many ♦ partner has: when he bids 4♦ or 4♥, this means he has void/singleton and that's a good reason to stop at 4♥- if partner can bid 4♠, you can ask aces yourself- if partner bids 4♥, you can bid 4♠, hoping partner can bid 5♣
luke warm
i'd bid 3♠, and i think 4♣ might backfire on you...
Kalvan14
3♠, 4♣ is a "smart" bid which might easily back-fire.I like rather the concept of an auction 3♠-3N-4♦, showing good diamond and fit; it's a good use of an "unpossible" bid, but I'd use it just with a partner in whom I've a lot of confidence :P
Free
Disagree with 4♣ as a smart bid. A ♣ switch will easily be found since we'll be dummy, and a ♣ lead through the control may win tempo for them. If p has ♣AK, do you think he'll ever cuebid this after your 4♣? Don't think so... Anyway, I'm also a 3♠ bidder, strong raise for ♥.
hatchett
3♠ followed by 4♥ to a good raise.
whereagles
3 ways to bid this: 1. 3♠, followed by 4♥. Thought it almost sounds like an underbid B) 2. Straight 4NT, intending to go to slam if the keys are there. This should be safe because opps' spade lead is "marked".3. 4♦, intended as hearts + good diamond side suit. You should pick the strategy that best fits your style.. and pard! ;)
