Partner has no long suit to bid, so i presume he has a balanced hand. RHO probably has short and long .

I think 2 is the best bid because I don't think the bidding is over yet after this bid. And later I can still bid something to tell partner I'm really strong.

I would bid 3 usually 13-15 with 5+ clubs.

It seems to be quite a good description of what I have.

Luis

I'm skeptical that this suit is good enough for a direct seat overcall at the 2 level.

I might, on occasion, be forced to make such a bid, but I wouldn't be happy about it.

Volutarily jumping to 3 with a crappy 5 card club suit and a hand that is playable in two other suits seems dubious at best. I'm certainly not going to strain to make such a bid with a number of better calls available including

1N

Double (intending to pass 2)

Even 2 is reasonable...

Silly question for all those advocating double followed by rebidding 2NT over 2

A balancing NT over a major shows (roughly) 10-16 HCP

A jump to 2NT in the balancing seat shows (roughly) 19-20 HCP. As I recall, we just had a poll where 84% of folks used this to show a strong balanced hand.

Any of you NT rebids at all worried that partner is going to play you for an 17-18 count?

If not, you should be...

Double, and then 2N over 1N or 2 by partner. 4 (or more likely 3N) are not out of the question. 2 in the balancing sit is a much weaker bid than in any other position. 3 with just 5 cards and with a hearts suit does not appeal to me.

1N shows 11-14 in a standard treatment.

Limey, in the balancing sit a direct cue-bid is a strong take-out; and 2N shows 19-21: in a standard treatment, two-suiters are not used.

Edit: I had not realised that 1N would be up to 16sh. Bit of a wide range but it makes the 1N option more attractive

Dbl followed by 2NT. I have 15-17 semibalanced with 1.5 stop if partner has s... suit is rubish!

With FREEWILL overcalls I'd bid 2 showing maximum 15HCP and 4+ and 4+. Very easy :P

My teammate held this hand. He doubled and passed (!?) the 2 response. His pard held: QJ, xx, AQxxx, T8xx. -2 in the Burns fit when diamonds were foul.

We defended a club partial, so lose 6 on a seemingly simple hand.

I think a 2 or 1N balance are reasonable, if heavy. Double followed by 2N is just too much I think.

I held as dealer: Kxxxx, QTx, 9x, AQx and passed; another 5332 11 count with spades - see other thread where you choose between dbling and passing 3. In the same 6 board match LOL.

3N's interesting but it doesn't seem to fetch.

Thanks gang.
