pclayton
IMPs, short matches LHO opens 1♠, pass, pass to you [hv=d=w&v=n&s=satxhakxxdjckj9xx]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Your call (and follow-up) please?
awm
Clearly one of those hands where almost anything could be right. I'll go with my usual (non-mainstream I know) style and bid my best suit. 2♣. :)
JohnnyH7
2C for me. Xing and bidding 2N or pass over 2D doesn't appeal.
hrothgar
1NT for me...
mike777
1NT Tough hand x is a very close second choice planning on passing 2D.
han
I voted for 1NT, 2C is the only other option imo and I have no problem with that.
inquiry
2♣ at imps (short match). 1NT at MP (higher scoring.. yes 2C making 3 scores higher than 1NT down one, but you get the idea).
whereagles
Dbl + 2H playing ELC.Dbl + 3C otherwise.
hrothgar
Dbl + 2H playing ELC.Dbl + 3C otherwise. Sorry... Somewhat confused by your posting: Are you advocating starting with a double and then correcting 2♦ to 3♣?
toothbrush
Partner has no long suit to bid, so i presume he has a balanced hand. RHO probably has short ♠ and long ♦.I think 2♣ is the best bid because I don't think the bidding is over yet after this bid. And later I can still bid something to tell partner I'm really strong. luis
I would bid 3♣ usually 13-15 with 5+ clubs. It seems to be quite a good description of what I have. Luis
luke warm
i'd bid 1nt
hrothgar
I would bid 3♣ usually 13-15 with 5+ clubs. It seems to be quite a good description of what I have. Luis I'm skeptical that this suit is good enough for a direct seat overcall at the 2 level.I might, on occasion, be forced to make such a bid, but I wouldn't be happy about it. Volutarily jumping to 3♣ with a crappy 5 card club suit and a hand that is playable in two other suits seems dubious at best. I'm certainly not going to strain to make such a bid with a number of better calls available including 1NDouble (intending to pass 2♦)Even 2♣ is reasonable... Limey_p
I voted for double then 2N. Any thoughts for 2S? is that hearts and a minor or is it any two suiter?
hrothgar
Silly question for all those advocating double followed by rebidding 2NT over 2♦ A balancing NT over a major shows (roughly) 10-16 HCP A jump to 2NT in the balancing seat shows (roughly) 19-20 HCP. As I recall, we just had a poll where 84% of folks used this to show a strong balanced hand. Any of you NT rebids at all worried that partner is going to play you for an 17-18 count? If not, you should be...
Kalvan14
Double, and then 2N over 1N or 2♦ by partner. 4♥ (or more likely 3N) are not out of the question. 2♣ in the balancing sit is a much weaker bid than in any other position. 3♣ with just 5 cards and with a hearts suit does not appeal to me.1N shows 11-14 in a standard treatment. Limey, in the balancing sit a direct cue-bid is a strong take-out; and 2N shows 19-21: in a standard treatment, two-suiters are not used. Edit: I had not realised that 1N would be up to 16sh. Bit of a wide range but it makes the 1N option more attractive
Free
Dbl followed by 2NT. I have 15-17 semibalanced with 1.5 stop ♠ if partner has ♦s... ♣ suit is rubish! With FREEWILL overcalls I'd bid 2♣ showing maximum 15HCP and 4+♣ and 4+♥. Very easy :P
hatchett
1NT, protective 1NT over 1♠ should have a slightly higher top end of the range, so as to avoid driving to 2NT.
Gerben42
I'd love to have my usual agreement here that 2♠ now shows "this hand": 4♥, a longer minor and a strong hand afraid a direct 2m-bid will be passed. If not I"d just bid 2♣.
pclayton
My teammate held this hand. He doubled and passed (!?) the 2♦ response. His pard held: ♠QJ, ♥xx, ♦AQxxx, ♣T8xx. -2 in the Burns fit when diamonds were foul. We defended a club partial, so lose 6 on a seemingly simple hand. I think a 2♣ or 1N balance are reasonable, if heavy. Double followed by 2N is just too much I think. I held as dealer: ♠Kxxxx, ♥QTx, ♦9x, ♣AQx and passed; another 5332 11 count with spades - see other thread where you choose between dbling and passing 3♠. In the same 6 board match LOL. 3N's interesting but it doesn't seem to fetch. Thanks gang.
