DrTodd13
[hv=n=sakqxxhkjdjxxcxxx&s=sxxxhatxdakxxckqx]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] You find yourself playing 6N in the south. Opps are very kind and lead ♣A and they follow-up with another club. Still, you have some work to do. What do you think the best line is from this point? Sorry if this problem is too obvious for the good players but it might be interesting for those still learning.
inquiry
There is an easy way, and a hard way, and a harder way. Easy way... assume ♠32, you have 11 tricks (5S, 2H, 2C, 2D). You can cash !DAK, no Queen falls, hook somene in hearts (try drop queen of Diamonds as better chance than drop queen of hearts). Hard way. Assume spades split 3-2. Try for red suit squeeze. Cash clubs cash diamond AK (no queen falls), now run spades. IF Diamond jack not good, cash heart KA and hope heart T is good. Hardest way, assume spades not split 3-2 (cash two find bad news). Now you need to find doubleton DQ and heart hook, and hand iwth long spade has four diamonds. Here you win 3D, 3H, 2S to reach something like this [hv=n=s[hidden]qxxhdc&w=sjthdtc&e=sh98dc4&s=s xhadxc]399|300|When you cash your last Club, West has to give, as he can't keep two spades and the 13th diamond. EW hands can be reversed.. this line requires correct guess in hearts and doubleton diamond queen when [/hv] So to cater to the disaster 4-1 spades. I win club and cash two spades. IF all is well, I will cash two high diamonds, if no queen, I will then run spades (I give up on the squeeze and instead play for heart hook with late club entry if heart jack is not covered.[/HIDDEN]
keylime
A♣ and another club. Hmmm, this doesn't look good. I play the 3rd club RIGHT NOW, like it was burning in your hands. If, what I suspect will happen, LHO discards, then you'll eliminate the spades. My gut feeling is, double squeeze on LHO is coming. If however, RHO discards on 3rd club, then the squeeze may come down as a criss-cross.
