Fairly sure a swan is a 7411.

Reese described a swan as a 4=1=1=7 because the way the hand diagram looked on paper:

Pretty sure this comes out "Play Bridge with Reese".

 

I think all 7-4-1-1's are collectively called swans now however.

 

I would open the subject hand 1, but one of my regular partners probably opens it 4 if the colors are right. Seriously.

I was playing MPs and felt it would be fun to roll the dice. I think 1 and willing to rebid 4NT is perfectly acceptable as well.

 

Unfortunately there was a sting in the tail. Partner lead an obvious A and our declarer made 13 tricks. Most of the field was in 4+2, so we ended up with a below average score anyway. All I could do was shrug.
