P_Marlowe
4C, wtp? Do I have a 4 card mayor? NoDo I have the power and trump length to pass? NoDo I have the power and stopper to bid 3NT? No What is left? With kind regardsMarlowe PS: Of course, I could try to be clever and Pass hoping for 200, but since I am better than the field (am I?), Iwill try to go plus, and try to win on a other board. pbleighton
4C. I'm guessing this is wrong, since it is the obvious bid  Peter
Walddk
4♣. Double is for take-out, is it not? So I take it out in my longest suit. Maybe partner is 4522 or 5422 and preferred a double to 3MA, but I can't know, so anything but 4♣ would be master-minding, pass included. Since this is presented as a problem, there must be more to it than this. Did partner tank before he doubled? If he did, I'm not in a better position, because I am not allowed to take advantage of the UI. Roland
Finch
Hmm. Longest suit at the lowest level clearly isn't the correct call here because it's presented as a problem. But it's what I'd bid.

Echognome
4♣ is clear, but I'm sure we can come up with hands where 3NT wins the day. For example if partner has: ♠Qxxx♥AKxx♦Q♣AKxx But it is a pretty contrived example and I'm not going to try be a hero on this hand.
mikeh
I agree with Gerber. My problem will come on the next round: is this hand really strong enough to ask for kings (via 5♣)?
whereagles
Thx all. 4♣ is best, yes. Pard held: ♠ AKxx♥ KTx♦ --♣ AKTxxx You'll get to 5 or 6♣ now. As long as you don't "try" for something like pass or 3♥, all is well.
