I've always kind of wondered what jobs the posters here had (especially since some people seem to post from work). I was surprised to find out echognome was a professor for instance :)

Right now I work at SCA promotions (Bob Hamman's company) as a "consultant" on various gaming projects, such as poker software and a virtual stock market game. I also am a profitable poker player, and play and teach bridge for money (my goal is to have enough demand to do this full time).

Product Management and Corporate strategy:

Most recent full time gig was as a Technology Strategist for Symantec. Currently doing consulting. I'm hoping that I get into the PhD program at MIT. If not - which is looking increasingly likely - I'll (probably) whore myself out to Accenture.

I work for a nonvirtual stockmarket company. Funny you should ask today of all days, the powers that be just talked about new positions which would mean a heck of lot less time for bridge. Just talk for now. I tried to explain that growth, expansion and making more money is not everthing. :).

Matt the Economist Prof can explain Utililty functions, Opportunity Costs and The Theory of Comparitive Advantage better than me and how it applies to bridge versus work.

I work in the research division at countrywide mortgage doing statstical research and helping to improve their default model (We try to predict the probability that a given loan with certain characteristics defaults. ) I visit BBO online while I wait for my SAS code to finish running....

Before this I worked on probabilistic risk analysis on engineering (usually NASA or DoD) projects and on terrorism/security risk analysis (I designed software that finds any security vulnerabilities a site has and to quantify how likely it is to get passed the security and get to a particular target). In that job I did a combination of Operations Research type modeling and statistical modeling.

My job seems to be no secret. :)

I am called a Lecturer here in the UK (assistant prof in the states). I teach and research in echo-nomics of course.

I do most of my research in antitrust and regulation and also more generally in studying cooperation among groups. Most of my work revolves around game theory.

Application developer. We develop (software & hardware) security products. The basic idea comes from checking that the guards are patroling. But it can be used anywhere you need to check people in time and place (posts are big customers, now we made an offer for bus inspectors...). If you are interrested write me PM  (I will not make that big advertising to write here the web site).

We are small company so I sometimes take part also at exhibitions around the world.

BTW: exists some bridge club database? F.e. if I'm at Birmingham (Will be at May) is there any chance to play bridge (and when etc.).

Between being a bank clerk (hated it!) and now being secretary at the Department of Mathematics at the local university I raised more or less succesfully 2 children. During that period I studied psychology for some time but quit because the children started to rebel. Now it is too late to start from scratch, I am not interested in examinations anymore. Bridge competition is already enough in this area...

I would do it all again but if I would being told to do something else I would like to be a profiler or do something which has to do with music. In any case I must have people around.

Application developer/project manager for OLAP applications - they sit on top of the everyday transactional systems that companies use, and provide more sophisticated reporting capabilities.

Before that, I was an application developer for transactional systems.

Before that, I worked in the insurance industry (marketing, management, and actuarial work).

Journalist by profession (19 years); have been running a bridge centre 30 km north of Copenhagen with around 1,000 members since 1989. Three Danish internationals employed on a part-time basis.

The sacrifice I made was to virtually give up playing at the highest level myself. I miss it a little, but not a whole lot, because I had won a fair amount of national and international tournaments before I decided to make my hobby my job.

That's actually a good excuse to ask whether there are any BBF'ers in the Salt Lake City area.

I am currently a math PhD student, and will have a job for 3 years at the University of Utah from September on.

Arend

well, I am also at U of Utah and a phd student here. Welcome!
