Your Bid/Plan

Over Drury tho, I bid 4 direct - my trumps are weak.

Isn't that a good reason to try to get NT into play? This is a hand that could produce 9 tricks outside of spades if partner passes 3N, but could have numerous trump losers.

I don't think so, because my hand is shapely and offensive in nature.

With that said, if I was a 5332 shape then yes I open 1NT. With opening this offshape with my doubletons so good in relation to the hand, it feels suit oriented.

I would open 1NT. Anyway, if I must open 1 (hardly a crime) my next bid is 3NT over 2 Drury. I'm a favourite to hold 18-19 with 5332 shape, but it doesn't matter a lot because partner won't bid beyond game if he prefers spades.

I can't really describe this hand accurately if I open 1.

1S-2C-3C will often cause you to miss 3N when it is right. Partner will never imagine you with such strong red suit holdings, and won't know hearts are triple stopped in NT if he has J9xx.

In 3'rd chair you open 1S (Any votes for 1N out there? I am just curious.)

Partner bids 2C (drury).

What's your plan? What do you bid next?

Isn't, P-1S-2C(drury)-3C a slam try? How would you take it playing with with a random partner? My Choice of game auctions (as well as my game invites) start with 2D. But I have no idea how universal these ideas are.

I would take 3C as ostensibly a game try, with the possibility of a slam try (just like 1S-2S-3C). I thought this was standard, but I'm not really sure either.

Part of the reason why I asked, is because some play 1M-2C-3C as slam try; others play it as a natural force (I'm in latter camp).

Also, what is 1M-2-2NT?

I normally play P-1M-2C-2N as a slam try, and asking for shortage. But again I am not sure that everyone plays that way...

Let me ask Josh this:

What are your continuations over Drury normally (i.e. is 1M-2 4 cards?, is 1M-2-2 weak, natural force, inv?)?

I hadn't had any discussion with this partner other than 1-way drury (actually I can't remember now if we were playing 1 way or 2 way). I would assume that we were playing reverse, fit drury, like everyone does these days:

E.G.:

P-1M-2C-2M No game interest

P-1M-2C-2D Legit Opener. Waiting.

P-1S-2C-2H natural. Legit Opener. Only forcing to 2S.
