Walddk
This upcoming Friday, Saturday and Sunday we are having a live vugraph broadcast from the Commonwealth Nations Bridge Championship in Melbourne. I have read that the Commenwealth Nations are 53 independent states with around 1.8 billion inhabitants. http://www.thecommonwealth.org/Templates/I...sp?NodeID=20596 In the light of these facts it's a little sad to see that only 9 of those nations will take part in the bridge event. Guernsey and Jersey, yes, and various Australian states, yes, but they are not members as such. http://www.cnbc.com.au/ With this said, I am also confident that the bridge will be of high quality when we get to the semi-finals and finals. mrdct
When the dust settled after the round robin of 19 x 8-board matches, the final rankings of the top teams were: 1. Derofe Australia (Derofe, Richman, Nagy, Del'Monte, Demuy) - 3332. Noble Australia (Noble, Prescott, Bilski, Brown, Green, Grosvenor) - 3283. England (Brunner, Holland, Hassett, Hirst) - 3204. Canberra (Thomson, Brightling, Bourke, Delivera, Wawn, Hoffman) - 3205. Hackett England (Hackett, Armstrong, Callaghan, Gardner, Bach, Cornell) - 3206. India (Agrawal, Sequeira, Chakradeo, Lewis, Shah, Manna) -311..10. South Africa (Apteker, Donde, Gowar, Chemaly, Zindel, Chu) -298 Under the conditions of contest, South Africa take the bronze medal as the third ranked Commonwealth nation. There is also a requirement that there must be least two Commonwealth nations in the semi-finals and one in the final, so the semi-final match-ups are: SF1: Derofe Australia v Noble AustraliaSF2: England v India (essentially the gold-medal match) Vugraph coverage starts tonight and continues over the weekend.
