Finch
The suggested squeeze against East doesn't work: Ace of diamonds2 rounds of spadesHeart(let's assume the club honours are split so they can't return a club)Diamond return, won in dummyDiamond ruffHeart rufftrumpheart ruffClub to hand Now the only person you are squeezing in the minors is West. I'm not very happy about squeezing West in the minors, as this diamond lead into a 2/1 suit from length whilst holding either the QJ of clubs or 5 clubs seems implausible. I've got a line that makes if East has the AK of hearts, the club honours are split, it's not a singleton diamond lead and West has the S10 singleton or doubleton: Ace of diamonds, King of diamonds, Diamond ruff (high)Spade to the 9 (or play the K if West plays the 10)Diamond ruff highSpade to dummyHeart off, endplaying East OK, that's a bit anti-percentage as well. Kalvan14
Good work, Frances. It is the only line that works (not that it is a great percentage: around 20%, or a bit less). No need however to finesse the T♠. A♦, A♠,K♦,x♦ ruffed high, spade to the K, diamond ruffed, small spade to the 9, and heart from dummy. E is endplayed. You need AK of hearts with E, clubs honors divided and no more than 4 diamonds with W. Still it works in this hand. The added bonus is that you win also wif anyone has QJx of diamonds. Finch
I think you mean no more than 4 diamonds with East, not West. The spade finesse is needed if East has 5+ diamonds and the lead is from shortage, else he just plays his 5th diamond and there is no ruff/discard. Best is to start A, K and a diamond ruff before the first round of trumps. If West shows out on the 3rd diamond you take the spade finesse, if he doesn't you play your suggested line. Fluffy
The minor suit squeeze works if you don't draw trumps to quick to retain ♣ transportation, doesn't it? ♦A, ♥. win ♦ return trump to hand, ♥ruff, trump to hand, ♥ruff, ♦ruff and trumps. [hv=n=shd10ck9x&w=shdc&e=shdqcqjx&s=sxhdca10x]399|300|[/hv]. Still the endplay looks better.
Kalvan14
It was obviously E with no more than 4 diamonds. And you are right also in drawing two rounds of diamonds immediately.
