inquiry
I suspect you might should have posted this hand in the beginner/intermediate section rather than the expert/advanced. Everyone will get it right. I suspect that if this was matchpoints instead of imps it might affect the line of play. As a rule, we should state rather the hand is matchpoints, imps, etc. Also, you should probably mention if both follow to the spade king, when played. As the lines diverge if spades are 4-0. inquiry
OK, IMP PAIRS, S 3-1:) BUT I SWAR MY PD who claimed an expert, ended up -2. lol... hard to believe... down two seems impossible. Ok, let's look at possible lines at imps. 1) dummy reversal playing for four minor suit ruffs in dummy, to give you 2C, 4 minor ruffs, 2H, and four trumps in your hand. 2) Set up long heart. Pull trumps ending in your hand. Cash Top club for diamond discard. Lead heart jack and duck even if covered. You can handle a 5-1 heart split this way (AKT of hearts win, one heart ruff, and the heart you gave up allows heart x to be good). I would take line two. simple. the hog
Down 2 sounds like he took the C and the H hook, both losing. Expert line!
luke warm
spades 3/1, ben's line 2 is the only way to play imo... it was the first thing that occured to me, duck a heart as soon as trumps drawn and diamond sluffed on top club
flytoox
Just realize i shld post the actual hand as a default convetion:) west S:JXXH:XD:QXXXXC:KJXX EASTS:TH:Q98XXD:AXXC:XXXX As ben said, this is really a beginner hand. Only need to duck hj, even opp cover, after draw trumps.
rtewari
Against good defence, you will need to guess the position in diamonds to make the hand. Say you draw 3 rounds of trumps and pitch a diamond on clubs and play the heart Jack and duck it to East who should also duck. Now you are one entry short to setup dummy's heart suit. But, while drawing trumps, East would have been squeezed out of some minor suit non-material exit cards - most probably will discard 2 clubs. In which case, after the heart Jack holds, you enter dummy with a club ruff (on which east will show out) and then concede a low heart to east and east is endplayed - ofcourse you have to guess that East holds the diamond ace. A good defender in East hand can pitch 2 diamonds and bare down diamond Ace so that he has club exit on this line of play. It will boil down to who does better guessing.
