Lead: ♦A and small ♦ to the king.[/hv] No. East spades too good and there is no line that seems to shorten yourself and force East on lead in an ending where he has only spaeds left with the equivalent of KJ(x) in his hand and dummy Qx(X) and south Ax(x). Walddk
No, not on the defence it got. East's spades are just too good. On a heart lead, however, you can make it with all cards in view. ♥A (diamond from hand).Heart ruff.Diamond up. Let's assume West wins his ace (doesn't matter) and continues diamonds: Diamond to the king.Heart ruff. Now you just keep playing clubs. East will get endplayed at some point and only get 2 trump tricks. Roland
whereagles
Yeah.. with the ♦A lead you lack the entries to strip East out of his hearts. On a heart start, you can ruff two hearts. East will get off play once with a heart, but not twice. I think that's it. Thx. Incidently, the hand was played at a local tournament and it was easy to figure out the layout, since West made a 2-suited overcall. East doubled 4♠ on the spot and West hesitated before passing, so the 4-0 break was pretty much marked.

joshs
Get them to revoke. Get them to unblock there good spades for fear of an endplay.
Myon
In the fear of totally outing myself: GIB's double dummy solver says that 4♠ always makes unless ♣x is lead, in which case it's 1 down. I didn't check how to play it, though... w .K98736.AT867.J6 n QT84.AJT.K34.537 e KJ97.Q425.Q2.294 s A6352..J95.AKQT8 s s dA
keylime
Looks like making here on best defense (per Jack): Win the heart lead discarding a diamond. Then run three clubs to find West with no spades. Lead up to the diamond king, ruff the heart return, and endplay East in trumps. With a diamond out there, unknown at this point. In that case I am going to challenge the GIB double dummy solver. 4♠ is definitely down on the defence it got: ♦A and another to dummy's king. Try yourself and see if you can avoid 3 trump losers.
