Ant590
I was wondering if it would be (is?) possible for TDs to manually invite people to play in their tournaments? It would be far quicker than manually messaging people and then them leaving their table (and partner) and being bridgeless for the time remaining. This would also enable 'for friends' tournaments to be set up further in advance. Before Claus mentions suction, can I just say that I for one never mind a player leaving for a tournament (although prior warning is usually polite), the real problem is players 'table surfing'. Many apologies for bothering people if this feature is already in place and the TDs who organise the tournaments I play in haven't gotten around to using it yet. Cheers,Ant

Cheers,AntVery nice you are aware of the problematic sucking feature. You may not feel harrassed by such but it is a violation of ordinary good conduct and specifically outlined here in below document: http://bridgefiles.net/pic/leave%20BBO.jpg Just to ask a person to play in a tournament is certainly not problematic. If a person accepts to play the tourney he just need to accept the invitation and leave the table in good order. Then there is no problem. The whole problem arises because server sucks immediately. A modification of the feature so that sucking would be announced to table and executed immediately the hand is finished would be OK for all. Such a modification I assume would be very simple but of course might delay a tournament start 2-3-4 minutes.
inquiry
Nooooooooooooooo We use to allow Team game people to do this. Type in the name of the players and they would be sucked into the team game when it started. People where then hijacking players left and right to join team games... yes, pulling them from other events. Benito and other stars where hijacked from games with hundreds of kibitzers this way. We use to allow TD's to find subs this way. Type in the name of the player to remove from tourney, type in the name of the new player, and press sub. They would be snatched too. This is open to too much abuse. Yes, I know what you are thinking, add the accept or reject button. But why should I be bothered to reject every invite to some tourney someone wants to do, I can imagine people creating individual tourneys and just going down teh list of names, inviting everyone. I HATE this suggestion..... IF it was used for good it would be great, but there is no doubt it will be abused.... Ben

Echognome
A more viable alternative is to be able to sign up for a tourney or team match while playing. We can already click on the tourney button to see what tourneys are available while we are playing. It would be nice if we could simply sign up as well. I cannot imagine this creating any of the above problems if it were easy enough to program.

I cannot imagine this creating any of the above problems if it were easy enough to program. I seem to recall that long ago, this feature was actually available on BBO, to a limited extent, at least. I remember people leaving the table for a moment (usually when they were the dummy), and then going to register for some upcoming tournament, and then returning to the table a moment later. Maybe this feature was abused as well in some way, and this is why it was removed.
