What do bid and why?

Recommended Posts

I had this little hand at a bridge class today ( playing ACOL)

S Void

H AQ1072

D A1098763

C K

Bidding I opened 1D LHO bids 1NT (was actually 12-14 not 16-18 as I thought!! but not alerted - it was a class..grrrr...).Ptr passes...

Is a 2H response forcing - if not should I bid 3H or anything else?

Thanks,

Steve

Some people would have opened 1H, but I like your 1D.

I don't think a jump to 3H is required here. A 2H rebid shows 5+ hearts and longer diamonds. Who knows, maybe your partner's hand is all black, and 2H is plenty high enough. But note, you are forcing your partner tp bid to the three level if he prefers diamonds, so this bid shows a very distributional hand of at least 5H and 6D. This is what you have and with nothing special in the form of hcp (only 13 counting a singleton club King).

2H is not forcing. It shows an excellent hand (in terms of playing strength and distribution), but it isn't forcing. It is unlikely that you will have a hand that doesn't open with a strong bid but then wants to force to the three level opposite a partner who has denied a reasonable hand, and with LHO having shown a good hand.

I'd bid 4H. Shows partner a good distributional hand, 5+H and 6+D. Let him deside what he wants to play.

2H isn't forcing, and 3H isn't that great imo.

remark: this hand is exactly the reason why I usually play with openings which show FG 55+ hands.
