A player that has represented our national team several times faced this problem on a MP tourney this weekend:

[hv=d=w&v=e&s=sxxxhk10xxdkq10xcjx]133|100|Scoring: MP

W - N - E - S

1-ps-2-ps

2-ps-ps-??[/hv]

Playing against 2 unkonwn players she decided that they were trying to steal something, and reopene with a double, the auction then procceed...

W - N - E - S

1-ps-2-ps

2-ps-ps-X

ps-3-ps*-ps

3

ps*: after a very long thinking.

She asked for director presence and explained that the 3 bid might be suggeseted by the tempo and stuff (all this things usually take some angriness to the table).

At this point take director's seat, when you see this rare bidding, then have a look at your paper where you can see all deals and finally find all the cards:

Poor director was quick enough to say 'go on' before retiring somewhere out of sight and start to laugh almost rolling over the floor :).

I think that the director should not look at the score sheet or at the cards at this moment. By doing this and then allowing or not allowing the 3S bid he gives information at the table that should not be there. (eg. he gives the info to East that West has a clear 3S bid)

He should ask the players to finish the board and look at it afterwards.

BTW, many good pairs had big problems to find the grand with natural methods. As an example I'll show you how we screwed up:

1-2

2*-3

4-4

5-6

6-ps

We play like frances (I think) that 2 shows 6+ cards, wich really helps on this board, but even then we couldn't reach 7. IMO daddy should bid 5NT after 5 to find out if we have all key cards and then bid 7. He says I should bid 6 after 6. Not sure wich one has more blame.

Some others didn't even play 2/1 and have to start 1-2-2-3 and even reaching 6 after that start was hard. Only a couple of pairs I know reached the grand, and they were making some sort of gambling. Would you have reached the right spot?

Great Hand!

I will never forget opening 4D (Namyats) All White on AKQJTxxxx - xxx x

LHO overcalled 4H, Partner takes his 8-10 seconds and x's, P, P and I broke discipline with 4S (well I did have 9 solid and a void)-All Pass

Partner, very slowly, puts down:

- AKJT9x KQxx xxx

I quip, well if you usually had this much for your penalty x's I wouldn't pull them.

Anyway, I made 5 for a normal result. LHO with x Qxxxx A KQJxxx would have run to 5C with does allright....
