Well do you or don't you?

I'd go with double. If we have a big major suit fit we've probably got a game, but I'm not willing to commit by bidding 4 right away. On the off chance that double is passed out, I have at least two defensive tricks and partner should have a decent stack of clubs.

Bid 4 and pass whatever partner says.

I'm not really afraid of getting a bad score. If there is enough strength behind me to double 4 of anything, we're most likely defending against 3NT that is likely to make as all missing club values are in front of the preempt.

Of course, if partner has KJx in clubs and another king on the side, perfectly average hand in strength, that's a pity :)... but if his 7 points are good ones, the game has chances worth trying.

Yeah, double and pass whatever partner produces.

Sometimes partner will pass 3. Occasionally 3 may even go down.

What? Pass or 5 (would say 5, but pass is quite reasonable).

5 over 4 is very interesting how fast can you run after tabling dummy ? There are 3 things that can go wrong with the double of 3

- Pd can bid 3NT

- Pd can bid 4

- Pd can pass 3x

Only when pd has a 4 card major AND decides to bid it instead of leaving the double or bidding 3NT only then you have made the right call with dbl. I would say it is risking too much.

Thank god partner is a passed hand!

4: an enormous overbid, saved by partner's passed hand status.. I hope.

I am at the very least a King light: AKxxx AQxxx J10x would be a minimum for me for this auction.

Double is horrible: there has to be a significant risk of at east three unmanageable continuations:

1. It's my lead

2. I have to bid over 3 (I'd be happier over 4)

3. I am laying down dummy in 3N..... and I sure am not bidding over 3N: that would be an even grosser overbid than 4 initially

As for the thought of 4 fetching 4.. it is impossible: 4 is NOT a 3-suited takeout: it shows the majors (for me... and I may be in the minority here, so do not intend to be dogmatic). Altho there is a case for 4 asking me to bid my better major B)

I admit that were I 4=4=5=0 monster hand, I'd like 4 to be 3-suited, but, for me, it is not: that hand I double and hope to survive.
