Guest Jlall
Well I think south should overcall 3C to 2H. With hands like this that have enormous playing strength and heart shortness I strongly believe in getting in. If he does it is relatively easy to get to slam after that. Probably something like (2H)-3C-(3H)-3S-(p)-4S-(p)-4N-(p)-5H(2 keycards no spade queen)-(p)-6S. Yes I'm aware I got to the wrong slam but north is interested in protecting the heart king and south will usually deliver 3 card support on this auction anyways. Finch
I agree that South should drive game with 3CI would bid 4C with the North hand. After all, I've only got AKx of the suit.
cherdano
You misread the auction, Justin, North dealt and opened 1♠. I would also double with South after 1♠-(2♥). With North, I would bid 3♠ next; discounting the ♥K, this about shows what I have. I think South is worth a slam move now, as slam is excellent opposite ♠KQ and the minor suit kings, which isn't quite a 3♠ bid yet. 1♠ - (2♥)-X-(3♥)-3♠-4♥-4N-5♥-6♠. joker_gib
I agree that 3♣ is better than dbl (when you have a natural bid....) and I will probably bid it like Justin Alain
pbleighton
I agree with others about 3C, but I wonder what I would have done at the table :) Peter
joshs
[hv=d=n&v=n&n=skq10532hk93d3cak4&s=sa8h6da1065cqj10965]133|200|Scoring: IMPEast overcall 2 ♥ and West bid 3♥ if they can[/hv] First board of teams match. North opened 1♠, East bid 2♥ and West bid 3♥ after dbl from South. Both teams missed the slam. How would you advice NS to bid these hands? Well the first round of the auction is easy:1S-2H-3C-3H Opener's rebid is a bit tricky. His choices are:3S, 4C, 4H Assuming that 3C promises a rebid (or is game forcing), then 3S has the best chance of getting you to the correct game, and the others are better at getting you to a club slam. I personally think that 4H is a overbid with a probably wasted heart K. Turn the heart K to the A, then 4H is much more tempting. I don't know, I am a 3S bidder but its very close. I am, in part emphasizing spades to protect my heart K in case the opps only have 8 hearts.... (that seems really unlikely vs good opponents, but who knows....). With my club fit, I am good enough to bid rkc next if partner raises. Actually the auction is easier if I bid 4C and he bids 4S since then I know I am facing Hx in spades. pclayton
I'd probably make a negative double with the south hand (to keep diamonds in the picture) but I don't have strong feelings about it vs 3♣. After the raise, I think 4♠ looks like a sensible call by the North hand, in spite of the K♥, which is probably worthless. 4♥ is possible, but with this nice spade suit, theres a lot to be said for trying to set trump as soon as possible. There's no particular reason why North should think 5♣ is any better than 4♠ at this juncture. My guess is that I'd get to the pretty good 6♠ instead of the really good 6♣. Only 26 hcp, the opps showing decent strength and no voids and what seems to be a wasted K of H. Congrats to all of you who get to slam. I guess 3clubs over 2H and then 4c and then 4d kickback, but that may be double dummy. I can see missing this one.
