Finch
This was quite a funny hand from our match yesterday. In the other room I played in 3NT which was not much of a challenge. Our opponents got to the fair 6!C contract on this hand (don't bother commenting on the auction, it was our opponents). West is a professional poker player when he isn't playing bridge. [hv=d=s&v=n&n=sk1053hq75da3caj109&s=saj8ha6dkq5ck7542]133|200|1♣ P 1 P 2NT P 4♣ P4♥ x 4NT* P5♥ P 6♣ all pass [/hv] Low diamond lead. You win with the ace, and draw two rounds of trumps on the second of which East discards a discouraging heart. You cash the other two diamonds discarding a heart from dummy, then exit with a trump hoping that West will open up spades for you or give you the !HQ so you don't need 4 spade tricks. East discards another heart on the last trump. West plays a heart to dummy's Queen, East's King (!) and your Ace. What do you do in spades? cherdano
I suppose the double of 4♥ was a try to talk us out of slam. So LHO must have been thinking slam makes, even though the club queen is always a possible, and sometimes a certain trick. I will play him for ♠Qxx.
