In pairs events a disconnected partner could be replaced with a GIB and easily returned to the game if they reconnected. (Sorry if you are already doing this, my partners in recent tourneys unfortunately were too reliable, didn't lose internet connection, and apparently didn't expect any better than my horrible play, so I haven't tried the sub function in a while.)
