emelnl
In the combobox of the chatwindows u can select the person to which u want to send the message. This list, however, is an historylist. Can it be made that u can type a name in this combobox? In some situation, u cant goto lobby or display players to click on one. Thanks. Martin Type in the name in room for send mail. That will display your message to the person if online else send the message as offline. ducky_rh
I've tried the same thing trying to leave a message for someone who is playing in a tournament, hoping the message would be delivered as soon as the tournament is finished, and that does not happen either. uday
Maybe we could have tourney players automatically get their mail again when a tourney ends. Maybe we should not bother blocking chat to players who are in a tourney. This is a very low barrier to cheating anyway. You cannot currently type in the recepients name in the client when sending a messsage. You have to be in a context where you can click on the recepients name. You can (must) type in the recepient name when leaving an offline message.
Badmonster
Maybe we should not bother blocking chat to players who are in a tourney. This is a very low barrier to cheating anyway. I like that when you play in a tourney there aren't lots of distracting messages. Also, I think people want to be helpful and may not mean to cheat, but end up disclosing more than they should. I once had a friend I spoke to on messenger. Sometimes I'd play in tourneys and he would watch. Great until he started to me when to claim. That was crazy making, but easily solved by turning off the instant messenger. I guess my point is that I like that you can't chat to people in tourneys and people can't talk to you. My suggestion would be that messages sent to those in tourneys just automatically become mail. And maybe appear to the sender in a different color or echo back a "your mail has been sent" message so people don't think they're being ignored. barmar
I guess my point is that I like that you can't chat to people in tourneys and people can't talk to you. Sometimes I'll be kibbing a friend in a tourney, and he'll say something to me (maybe just a greeting, but sometimes a comment about the board he just finished). It's annoying that I can't reply. It seems like we could add another check-box to the "Ignore chat" preference for "when playing in tourney".

It has bothered me a great deal several times already. Please create a possibility to enter an arbitrary user name to which to send a message. (While at it, get rid of the detached chat window as well, making it a component of the main window. We are chatting all the time and the pop up window is distracting, constantly hidden behind the main window, or covering up something you actually would want to read.) Well, IMHO the entire chat GUI would have to be thoroughly revamped but that's getting to far at this point. --Sigi
TylerE
One time this is a big issue is when you've registered in a pairs tourney with a pick up partner, and they're invisible. Near as I can tell there is no way to chat with them pre-tourney to finalie conventions, etc.
jdulmage
BBO is trying hard to prevent cheaters, we don't need to lift the blocking of messages.
csarmi
Barnar, you can reply. If he is chatting to you, he is apprently aware of you. So just go kibitzing into their room and write the answer into your profile. What I would really love to see implemented is, however, to be able to send mails to players in tourneys who would get them right after the tourney.
