Tournament UNDO buttons...

The current state of the art for BBO games is to have UNDO turned off, or UNDO turned on. If turned on, then accept or not accept is entirely up to the opponents, as described in the rules of the site. This is as it has to be for main room games as there is no other choice.

 

For Tournaments, however, when there is a real live TD (and I am not talking here about ones with a playing director), we could do more.

 

Perhaps there should be an option for undo on bidding only... this allows people to ask to undo a mistaken bid (misclick) but once play began the UNDO is grayed out. That would be nice option to have available.

 

But a better one might be a "director undo". The director needs the ability to allow undo's in a number of cases. The most common is during the bidding if someone fails to alert and a bid is made on misinformation. Also should there be a bidding penatly due to UI given during the auction due to one player blurting out (can you blurt out when you have to type) inforamtion about hteir hand (Gosh, I meant to bid spades, not hearts)...

 

I think one "simple" (I am not a programmer so simple here is probably in my mind only) is to allow the director to turn on "UNDO" for just a few moments and then instruct the bidding to be undone and corrected. The director can then turn undo back off again.

 

Or it might be useful if the DIRECTOR UNDO instead of asking the opponents to allow an undo sends the request to the director, who then enters the table and makes the decision. These are just thoughts, but seems like the two extremes (always off, or always on but the opponetns decide) are not adequate for serious online bridge competition in tournament.s.

A month ago two players found the ♥-fit and after some cueing and asking keycards the final contract was 6♥, sorry misclick, 6♠. After this incident I made UNDO possible in special cases in my tournaments.

After the first TD call concerning this kind of misclick I checked the undo box in the management window, asked for 2 undo's, asked the 'misclick'player to correct his bid and unchecked the Undo box. Not theory Ben, but practise:).

 

I would like a 4th TD Call option: DIRECTOR UNDO which would call the TD to the table, suspend the bidding and inform the other players about this call. The TD should be able to undo bids without the help of the players.

Adding this to the BBO software would be an improvement.

 

Off topic but 2 other improvements would be 1: assignment of split scores and procedural penalties and 2: if a defender concedes one or more tricks, his partner should get a chance to object immediately.
