P_Marlowe
Pass, wtp? Be grateful, that partner found a bid,you would have prefered Dbl, but christmas is over. Marlowe
whereagles
The only plausible explanations I see are 1. pard is conservative and has like Txxxxx of diams. He didn't want to bid 1♦ 1st round because the suit was broken. 2. pard has like.. a 2146 with bad clubs. He didn't want to overcall 1st round on 4 cards but is willing to try for a diamond contract. Needless to say, things would have been much easier if he had overcalled the 1st round....
Gerben42
The drawback to 3NT is that LHO might not have a ♥ to lead so is forced to lead his own suit, ♣. I wonder what hand can partner have that did not want to overcall 1♦ and yet bids 3 of them now... What's our overcall style?
Chamaco
I pass: 1. I do not see a source of tricks in NT (pard won't be superstrong for his bidding, so even with diamonds running, he won't have much more) , and 2. communications in hearts might be a problem, as pard is likely to hold a void. pbleighton
Pass. 3NT seems against the odds. Peter

Free
Isn't anyone wondering where all the ♠s are? Partner didn't overcall, but suddenly comes out with 3♦. I suspect he doesn't have ♠, otherwise a Dbl would be better. But what kind of hand does he have??? Can't RHO psych with lots of ♠? I'd just bid 3♥, hoping p understands this, because I don't understand him anyway...
adhoc3
Pass was my choice too. Pard had: Ax -- KTxxxxx Txxx Diamond break 22, so there was a quick 3NT. Some made 5D. Without 2H WJS interference, game would be possible. I agree with pard's bidding. Full hand: [hv=d=w&v=b&n=saxhdktxxxxxctxxx&w=skxxxhxdqjcakjxxx&e=sjxxxhqjtxxxdxxcx&s=sqxxhak98xxdaxcqx]399|300|Scoring: IMP1C----pass---2H---passpass--3D----pass---pass*pass//[/hv] Did not consider psychic issue, anyway, 3H still could be helpful. Thanks Free. BTW, it was Pclayton who sit east. That 2H .... I couldn't breath!
han
Next time you play, bring some candy. A little sugar might make partner bid some more.
pclayton
Adhoc; I was the one that couldn't breathe when you tabled your hand in 3♦. :P I just about passed out when I thought how many tricks I was making in my 2♥ contract with that trump split. 3N is a fairly lucky make, but I think your pard was pretty shy not to try 2 or 3♦'s. Even then, theres no guarantee you'll find 3N.
