The file db

Hi. I've encountered lot of disconnects problem with my computer at work. I gets logged in but gets kicked out after some seconds, the automatic reconnect push me back in. A couple of seconds later I get kicked out and the automatic reconnect push me back in again. You get the picture.

I have tried lot of things with firewall, ports, antivirus and so on. Nothing helped before I deleted the db file?

After I deleted it I got a stable connection for longer periods. Approx. 15 minutes long sessions before I got kicked out.

Anyone knows what to do, or anyone else who experience the same problems?

When you log in to BBO, your PC is sent a whole bunch of information from our server. This includes information like who is logged is, who is playing at which tables, and a lot of other things.

Some of this information stays the same over long periods of time (the profiles of most members for example). This information is stored in a "cache" on your hard disk so that it does not have to be sent to you every time you log in. The net result is that login times are roughly 50% faster than they would normally be without the caching mechanism.

The name of the cache file is db.

It is not a bad idea to delete this file on occasion (BBO itself will do this if you don't). However, the absense of this file should have no impact on your connection quality once you are logged in to BBO.

Most likely your ISP was having a bad day and it is a coicidence that these problems went away when you deleted the db file.

I doubt that the problem is on the ISP-side. I have had problem connection to bbo for quite a long time actually. But almost never encounter any problem with any other internet services.

It turned out that when the db file gets big (> 700 kb) I get kicked out and can't get back in again (I see the lobby but then I get flushed). It's impossible to get a reliable connection (for a while) until i delete the db file once again.

I don't think that the db file is the problem at all, however there is a conflict somewhere that makes the connection go down and the db file is involved in a way or another.

On my computer, which is XP pro sp2, I have F-secure Antivirus, F-secure Anti-Spyware, .Net framework 2.0 and a bunch of developer programs.

I will try to create an empty db file which is write proteced and I will also set the whole Bridgebase folder to write-protected. I know for sure that .Net framework has some flaws when it comes to security and accesibility to folders and files.

Maybe this will help.

I doubt that that plan will work but you can stop bbo using the cache like this:

1. login to bbo

2. start another instance of bbo and login again. the 1st instance will be booted, and you can close it down. the second instance will not use the cache

This will allow you to experiment with a bbo that doesnt use the cache.
