Good morning :P

Did anyone of the BBF members already decide to go to Verona to play or kib the World Bridge Championships? I know it is early for this question

I will be there and there rate to be 100s of other BBO members.

If someone wants to organize some kind of get together for BBO members in Verona that would be great. Chances are good that BBO can offer some prizes (through a lottery maybe) for people who attend. We can also help by publicizing such a meeting through BBO itself.

However, we are not very good at organizing things like this so we are going to have to rely on outside volunteers to make most of the arrangements.

Wouldn't it be a good idea to have a button with the BBO logo and BBO nick? I know that such buttons are expensive and someone must be there to organise that all which is perhaps too difficult. Everyone who is interested in meeting other BBO players could prepare his button at home and wear it then...? And a meeting point could be anounced here and on BBO (like "we meet in front of the nearest-to-entrance bathroom" or so ;))

Just an idea...

A BBO tshirt with the nick printed on would be COOOL!! ;)

It's possible this isn't the best place to ask, but I don't know where else:

If the afternoon session starts at 3.30pm, will I be able to catch a 9.20 pm flight from Verona airport that evening?

I have written an email to some people of the Italian Federation as well as to the email address of the Verona Bridge Club.

I don't know Verona nor anything about the location/organization of the event, however, perhaps they might give some useful answer.

If they do, I'll let you know.

I received the following reply from the Italian Bridge Federation, whose reply was quite quick:

"........

non vi sarà alcuna difficoltà a prendere il volo delle 21,20 perchè il turno delle 15,30 finirà intorno alle 19 e l'aeroporto di Verona è attaccato alla città, quindi di veloce raggiungimento.

"...

there will be no difficulty in catching the 21.20 flight, because the 15.30 round shall end around 19.00 and the Verona airport is really close to the town, hence it can be reached quickly"

Some minutes ago a friend called me and said that at least for the Warshaw event the MULTI 2 opening is no exception anymore for Brown Sticker (EBL doesn't allow 2 Multi). Does anyone know more? Perhaps there are more people who must change their system if that is true...

Is it worth a new thread?

Thx,

Caren

In Warsaw anything will be allowed (systems as well as conventions), because we are dealing with the official European Bridge Team Championships. As far as systems are concerned, this is classified as a Category 1 event in the Open and Women's series.

Category 1:

For such events all classifications of systems will be permitted, subject to adequate disclosure, but teams using HUM systems must submit their Convention Cards in advance in accordance with the Conditions of Contest and will be subject to a reduction of seating rights.

Question:

Attempt of answer:

Although I don't know more at the moment, I also noticed this part in the regulations.

My guess is, that this is a kind of layout-bug in the regulation. The original BS definition has two exclusion parts (combined with an AND) and two exception parts. In the regulation on the EBL homepage there are now two exclusions, then one exception and - surprisingly - another exclusion. The wording is IIRC the same as before. For me its inadvertent :)

But this is only a guess at the moment.

I made an appeal ;) to the EBL, but got no response till now.

Ad Roland: The Seniors will play a Categorie 3 event ...

The countdown runs, 9 days left ;)

I'm very interested to say hello to or to change a few words with the BBF/BBO members who will be in Verona, but still have no good idea how to organize that. Does anyone else have? Last year I have been at the place where the competitions are played but it is a very big building and I cannot exactly remember where a good meeting point could be....

Thx Kathryn!:) The goal is not to be last; for the sake of bridge (and my nerves) I hope never to be on BBO vugraph ;) I was once in Rieneck (the annual German bridge-camp); after the first 2 minutes I forgot it completely, still remembering the first hand: I had to play 7, an ambitious contract (and slight overbid, I was responsable for 30% :P ). I thought about everything I ever heard of squeezes (an endplay was obviously out), but no chance. The rest of the session was relaxing :P Funny when you hear the crowd bawl and don't yet have an idea why: good or bad decision, something spectacular at the other table or just the arrival of a famous person?

I said already in another thread that I don't think to end up among the first rankings. But we live in an area where it is hard to find stong competition. And it is easier to fly to Italy than to play in the middle or south of Germany. I love Italy, I like to meet friends, I like bridge and I am curious. Perfect circumstances for this event, or? An argument against might be the fee....
