Another Balancing Problem

3N. I have no tricks, but hopefully I'll make it on sheer power.

Agreed minimum is hard to quantify. x xxx xxx AQJxxx would be a 2C bid.

edit: 13 cards would be nice too :)

I can't imagine stopping below game either.

A clear target, but this statement does not provide us with a re-bid

I don't like to repeat what Justin has just said, I already do it far too often. So yes, I would bid 3NT.

With which of the following hands (if any) would you balance with 2:
  • x Kxx xxx AJTxxx
  • x Jxx Qxx AJxxxx
  • xx KJx xxx QJxxx
  • xx KJx xxx QTxxx
  • xx KJx xxx JTxxx

The first one, definitely. The second one, possible, but probably not.

The other three, no.

I expect partner to usually take action with 16+ hcp in direct seat. The only exception is a huge stack of spades. With doubleton spade, this is unlikely. I see no reason to push opponents into a better strain by bidding 2 on a hand where they likely have the majority of values and I have only a weakish 5-card suit.
