jchiu
Inferences- 5-card preempts are sane with a good suit.- Raising on Qx is somewhat insane with those spades unless with.- If RHO has a stiff club, I doubt that I can make for lack of cashing side tricks in the "crossruff line" (6 spades, 0 hearts, 2 diamonds, 1 club) and lack of running suit in the "draw trumps line" (cannot ruff because that would lose SA, HA, two natural spade tricks). Therefore, using the "bid and pray" system, I pray that RHO is ...5332 Because you implied it may be makable :P Assuming the latter, I'm going to ruff the HK, cash the CK, venture across to the CA, hook the diamond. I'm going down at least two if it fails, so I assume it works. If covered, return to other top diamond, ruff a heart, ruff a diamond to leave (with 7 tricks in the bag and 1 trick lost) QJ -- -- QxxKTx x -- x Now a heart finishes RHO. If ducked, I ruff a heart, cash the DA, and ruff a diamond to attain the same position. Alternately, if RHO is 5323, I can cash three top clubs before embarking on ruffing the red suits high. My instinct sides with the former.
