inquiry
Hi all,For 6-7 teams in a 1-session club team event, what is better: Round-Robin or a Swiss? Thanks,Dan I am very fond of round-Robin, but the problem with 6 or 7 teams, is that you have to play 5 or 6 rounds. Obviously for a 1 session event, this is a problem. You either have to play too few boards per round or play too many boards in the one session. I really like a minimum of 7 boards for any match, so in a 6 team round robin, this would mean that you have to play 35 boards... ugh. With 6 teams you can do a sort of combo thing. Split into two brackets, and have a two two round robins using three teams each. The way this works is round 1, Team A NS versus Team B EW, Team B NS versus Team C EW, Team C NS versus TEAM A EW. Then the pairs move so that the after what looks like two rounds, you each team has played two matches. Now the winner of the first bracket plays the winner of the second bracket. Second plays second, etc. This way you play only 3 rounds, and each round can be more boards, say 8 or 9. Ben
DJNeill
Hi all,In this combo arrangement, would the 2 brackets be seeded or random? Thanks,Dan
inquiry
Well, for a small club seeding can generate some hostility. Unless there is a clear #1 and #2 team, I think random lot is ok.
