Radical suggestions

Although notorious bailers and booters may be punished by being banned for a certain time, those remaining at the table still suffer. And the culprit goes on to another table where he repeats his crime.

Here is my suggestion:

If someone leaves the table in the middle of a hand, and he is the first to leave (because I would not punish those who leave an incomplete table), log him off automatically, and don't let him log in again for an hour. I think the difference between bailing and logging off can be detected (since the bailer remains logged in).

In the case of booters maybe banning from hosting a table for a certain time would be enough, but if repeated, the above procedure may be applied.

These are my raw ideas just thought out during shaving... what is your opinion?

Claus is correct. Many leave the table to join tourneys... often pay tourneys which is how BBO makes money to keep the site free for all to use. So your solution is impractical to start off. Second, some people leave a table because they get disconnected. If you just wait a short while, they will log back on and reconnect to the table, but with your solution this wait would be quite long indeed.

And as a BBO yellow, I will tell you that often someone at the table will become abusive and a player will want to leave that environment (and report it to a bbo yellow). But if as soon as they leave the table they are booted and blocked from coming back for an hour, the culprit may very well get away with his horrible actions.

Sorry, I don't think I could ever support this plan. It seems to me that the current scheme works fine. If you get at a horrible table, get disconnect, play in a tournament, no problem with the occassional leaving during play. What the system does is get the chronic people that leave. Also, if someone leaves because they don't like the score they were going to get, you can still reporrt them to a yellow, but with the recent growth in the number of players, I prefer it if we all just let the computer automatically deal with the worse of this bunch. I like to occassionally play some rather than spending my time typing.. "Hi, I am a bbo yellow. I am contacting you because.... "

I wrote the above in the belief that disconnections and leaving the table automatically for tournaments can be distinguished from leaving the table deliberately. If not, of course I understand that my proposal is worthless.

I suggested something similar, but don't log off, just inability to join a table (ANY table, including tourneys and matches), and for 10 mins, not an hour (just for killing the benefit of leaving, and not much else. Often real life calls while you're playing). Chronic offenders can be dealt more harshly.

You need people to start planning though, it would require some time for most, and longer for a few :)

I'm fine with the current system behavior, the main thing was to do something.
