Walddk
I agree entirely that we only score for fun. I also understand that the panelists are volunteering their time to participate in the poll and certainly appreciate reading their insights. All that being said, I think it might be insightful to hear not only about why panelists chose a certain bid, but also why they didn't choose other bids. Panelists will often do this naturally on some problems. But it would be helpful if they could discuss all bids they might be thinking about and then rate and more importantly discuss those bids. I think it's a greater lessen for those that are trying to learn to not only know the winning way to thinking, but also what to avoid. Ultimately it is up to the panelists what they would like to share with us and I am happy with their current efforts. I am only making a request as one member of their reading audience. Very good point. I can only speak for myself, but I think the answer (if you exclude Frances/Jeffrey and MikeH who are very thorough) is that most panelists for whatever reason don't feel inclined to write a novel. And a novel it will be if Ben was to quote every single word the panelists write. As a moderator, it's obviously his right to edit as much as he wants, but he may feel it as a dilemma if he must leave out a few of the comments .... comments that the panelist in question thinks is very important for his/her reasoning. Ben may want to comment on this issue. Roland
Echognome
I take your point Roland. I do not expect the panelists to write a novel, nor do I expect that they have any duty to do so. I do not want to come off in any way as griping as I enjoy what the panelists do write. I am only making a suggestion as to what I would enjoy reading. Of course, any insights the panelists make are appreciated. ;)
inquiry
And a novel it will be if Ben was to quote every single word the panelists write. As a moderator, it's obviously his right to edit as much as he wants, but he may feel it as a dilemma if he must leave out a few of the comments .... comments that the panelist in question thinks is very important for his/her reasoning. Ben may want to comment on this issue. I tend to leave out little of what the panelist say. Oh I edit extremely rarely, but mostly I cut and paste the replies into what I post. Unlike a publication like Bridge World (or any real paper publication), this online forum has no practical space limitations. If it was a paper medium, I would post one persons comments and then say who agreed... here, each can express themselves. An advantage of an online forum. Also, I think now that MikeH, luis, roland and a few others get in and slug out the issues before I post the expert commentary, the polls are even more valuable. One thing I notice is that after I post the panel's views the discussion usualy ends. That is a little sad, since there is often open issues that can still be "argued over." Remember, as good as our panel is, there really is rarely a last word in bidding situations... no matter how confident my pronouncement is that the panel has spoken with a single voice. For instance, 2N-3S-3N-4C.. why shouldn' that be smolen like? Clearly the panel voted for 4C as NATURAL and FORCING (and slam try). But what is the merits of minor-smolen? That might be fun to discuss. Ben
reisig
I voted to bid ..and it was clear to me that partner could never raise 5♥ even when right. So - being a brave bidder - I bid 6♥ and -as always - ready with the "I'm sorry" card in the bidding box.
fred
Thanks to Inquiry for his excellent work! The man writes well, analyzes well, and scores fairly in my opinion, but I really don't think the scores are that important. The score is one of the less important thing ! Tx a lot to Ben for his great work and to all panelists for sharing their views with us. This poll is great and instructive ! <_< :) Alain

Rebound
Alas, I did not submit my answers before the deadline, but I would have voted for pass. I am curious to know what the panelists would do with the given hand were they in direct seat.
