Stratified events require huge scores to win. So settling for a partscore, even if technically correct, is not a wise move. I transfer to game.

If I am in luck, partner's minors include the A but not the A, and LHO makes a lead-directing double of 4 with something like KQJ in the suit :o That is the kind of result you need to win stratified events.

I reject stayman because:

1) I do not want to hear a double of 2

2) I do not want to discourage a lead, by suggesting , which I would be doing if partner bids 2 and I bid any number of

3) I do not want to allow my LHO a cheap way into the auction: they may be cold for 5 of a minor... heck, for all I know, they can make a slam :)

I'd really like to bid 4 to play. While this may "wrong-side" the contract, it totally shuts the opponents out of the auction. It's very dangerous for them to compete to the five level in case I have a hand, they're unlikely to have a takeout double (so many between partner and me), and they have no chance to double four of a minor to suggest a "sacrifice" (which will probably make).

If not playing south african transfers, I'll bid 4 and hope to get away with it.

My guess is that 4 was based on a 5 card suit, and now I am even more convinced that they are cold for game and maybe slam. However, very few opps bid slam after we open a strong 1N, and maybe partner has 2 cashing side aces :)

I am sure not passing: 5

I am pleased to see that 2 created this problem :o

I too want to bid 4 over 1NT to play.

If this bid is unavailable, I'll transfer at the 4-level. Transferring at 2-level seems insane.
