Kalvan14
[hv=d=s&v=b&s=skt432haqj5daq95c]133|100|Scoring: IMP1S - 1NT* - 2H - 4H - ?*: forcing 1 round[/hv] System is 2/1. I solved your first problem, imposing a re-bid of 2♥ over the forcing 1NT.Now partner jumps to game. It's your turn. Btw, all in agreement with the 2♥ rebid, or there are any 2 diamonders? jdeegan
;) 5♣. Understanding that if pard's values are in clubs, even 5♥ may be too high. Pard, if he is looking at the club ace, should realize that my 5♣ is a void and bid 5♥ which I will pass. If he does have one or more of the red kings and the spade ace, he will bid 5♠, and we will, perforce, be in six which ought to have a good play unless too much is wasted in clubs (e.g. the KQ). A close second choice after 4♥ is a pass. Not going down in 5♥ has a reasonable chance to be a winner on this hand, IMO. e.g. xKxxxxxxAKxxx
Fluffy
6♥, if partner has the worst hand we will be on 2 fineses or so. Having all the key cards is just so unlikelly
fifee
I like 5D which would imply Clubs stopped, too. Partner may take it as bidding out your hand pattern. He will definitely know you are interested in slam.
Finch
I pass, but that's not least because I have discussed what partner's 4H bid shows. In my 2/1 partnership, we play that- 3H is a 'courtesy' raise, bid on most hands with 4-card support on the grounds opposition are probably going to bid 3m if we pass 2H anyway.- 4H is a semi-pre-emptive raise, saying you want to bid game but have no interest in going further. It often has 5-card support.- 4C/4D show a serious raise to game, and are 'fit' bids as far as possible (i.e. you bid the suit you have length & broken honours in). han
Lacking Frances's agreements I will make a slam try. I play that 5m is patterning out, not shortness, so over 5D partner should know which cards are good and which are not. I agree with 2H btw, I cannot imagine a different call without Gazilli/Riton (wouldn't Riton be nice here??).
HeartA
5D or 6H depending on my mood (or match status).
luke warm
i'd bid 6♥ ... i can't imagine bidding 4nt, and anything else seems to give the opps too much info
mikeh
I bid 5♣: I hate bidding on a void as my first cue, since it gets partner to upgrade the K of the suit, when he should be downgrading. But he will surely not go past 5♥, or if he does, he will hold the ♠A and the ♥K, and I may be okay anyway. If he bids 5♦, I bid 5♥ so that he knows that I am not gungho: once again, I think that he will not go past 5♥ without a hand on which I have at least a play: clearly my sequence highlights the ♠ suit. I like (and in some partnerships, play) the treatment Frances described: I think that it is a virtually cost-free treatment. But I assume we are not playing it here. Kalvan14
[hv=d=n&v=n&s=s8hk762djtxxcakxx]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] The cards of North were these. At my table, the bid was 1♠-1NT-2♥-4♥-6♥ (we were always silent). Not a great slam, requiring both red suits 3-2, and the finesse in diamonds. It went one off, with the ♦K off-side. My team mates stopped in 5♥, so it was a good hand (sorry, don't have the auction).Still, I sympathise with S: he has a nice hand once there is a fit in hearts, and his auction had the advantage of not disclosing anything. There are a lot of N hands which fit nicely, and have a great play. IMHO, a Riton 2♣ can be advantageous in this particular hand: I am not so sure that it pays giving away a natural 2♣, in the long run. I am not in agreement with having a pre-emptive 4♥ bid either: Oppos were playing 3♥ as a courtesy raise, and 4♥ 10-12 HCP [did not ask what 4m would have been]. It is the same kind of treatment I use too, with 4m being fit-showing (in these case it would have been nice: 4♣ is a forcing raise, with clubs values which are not useful). 4♦, do..
