It seems to me there are 2 possible bids X and 3N.X is probably correct, but if you X partner will bid 2C. Now what? 2N now does not do justice to the hand. inquiry Posted October 14, 2003 Report Share Posted October 14, 2003 Double is best. The reason being, if WEST can scape up a bid, you probably can't make 3NT. But if West passes and partner bids 2C, and this is passed back to you, I think this hand requires 3NT. After all, you need very little from partner to make game. Free Posted October 14, 2003 Report Share Posted October 14, 2003 The way I play NV, my partner has about 7-11 HCP here with his pass, so I'd bid 3NT ;D But in a normal system I'd Double, but if you bid 2NT afterwards (without a jump) you indeed do no justice to the hand. But I'd still do it, because I don't want to bid 3NT and get doubled for some down. I still have 3 finesses that I have to take, and I'll probably won't get enough to dummy to take these... And if East did open light, maybe your partner can make a responsive double to show hearts, which is just fine with you, and you pass. Under your senario, a club switch will not be necessary, as if WEST can lead spades twice, they could just contnue spades anyway. The best you could hope for is 1S, 2H, 4D, and 1C. The player in my seat at the other table is a maniac, we were ahead in the match and I wanted to make sure I flattened the board. 3N is a foul contract, but it has one major virtue. It makes if the opps lead a H, which lefty did withxKJxxxxxT9xxxprefering not to lead his partner's suit, as he felt I was well stacked in S. The full hands TxxxxxxxxJ8xx AQJxxx xx Qxxx K K987AQAKxxAQx You can drop the stiff K of C and endplay rho in S to make 2 tricks. Incidentally, anyone for a 2S opening in third seat? mishovnbg Posted October 16, 2003 Report Share Posted October 16, 2003 Hi all! After playing several years ROMEX with very strict showing of hcp in bal hand, my conclusion was same way is not wining. Reason to play 3NT with (24)25+ hcp statistically is unknown combination of high honours in both hands. When you have 20+hcp you can simple look same combinations in your own hand and count possible tricks directly. Instead of showing exactly quantity of hcp, I play now 2NT as "If you have 1 trick p, we have game". In competition, how in example, when I cant differ need 1 (3-5) or 2 (5-7) tricks, I use law of less lose: 2NT need 2 tricks, if I need 1 I just bid game. In example my bid will be 3NT.
